What a great meeting we had this last Thursday! New member (and County CEO) Alison Lehman was inducted as our newest member, with her husband Larry and son Jason in attendance.
Also attending were Alison’s colleague, District 5 Supervisor and GV South Club Rotarian Ed Scofield, member NCPD Chief Dan Foss, member Louise Bennicoff Johnson, Trustee Area I, Nevada County Board of Education, guests Lynn Skrukrud of the NC Chamber of Commerce and NC City Manager Shawn Grayson. It was wonderful having such a great representation of our county and city “caretakers”.
We also viewed Part 5 of the 6-part video series “Climate Solutions 101”, which will conclude next month. We hope that this is just the beginning of productive conversations about what we, as Rotarians and concerned citizens, can do to help with the climate crisis. See below for links to the videos, and the graphics which are full of helpful information. Please let your Environmental Sustainability committee know if you have any activity or project you’d like to see our Club do to help.
We hope you’ll join us this coming Thursday Jan. 19 at 5:30 pm for our Social meeting at Round Table Pizza. Chris and Carolyn will present results of our individual visits with most of our members last fall. We welcome your input, questions and feedback. The pizza and adult beverage (or whatever you drink) should make it fun!
And try to hang in there with the rain and wetness…Environmental Defense Fund cites scientific data showing that the US West is experiencing its most severe drought in 1,200 years! It may seem like we’re drenched, but the earth can use a LOT more water (of course not all at once).
Throughout the 2022-2023 Rotary year, Nevada City Rotary has been enjoying a monthly viewing of the Project Drawdown Climate Change 101 series. Project Drawdown states:
Climate Solutions 101 is the world’s first major educational effort focused solely on solutions. Rather than rehashing well-known climate challenges, Project Drawdown centers game-changing climate action based on its own rigorous scientific research and analysis. This course, presented in video units and in-depth conversations, combines Project Drawdown’s trusted resources with the expertise of several inspiring voices from around the world. Climate solutions become attainable with increased access to free, science-based educational resources, elevated public discourse, and tangible examples of real-world action. Continue your climate solutions journey, today.
