Your Board of Directors and Membership Committee have been reviewing our club By-Laws, which takes place every three years. We will publish them by the end of October and present the changes/updates of interest to all members at the Oct. 27 meeting.
We’ve also been occupied with finding a more suitable meeting place for 1st and 3rd Thursdays, as it became apparent that we couldn’t have consistent access at The National Hotel. (Paying guests have priority for the upstairs salon.) Our new “home” is the Round Table Pizza meeting room (on 686 Sutton Way, by Staples). It meets all our basic needs for club meetings, including parking.
When my husband Bob and I visited Cornwall Sept. 8-13, we unexpectedly witnessed first hand the reactions to the death of Queen Elizabeth and the succession of Prince Charles to the throne as King Charles III. The outpouring of grief, the exquisite pageantry, and hearing people around us saying their respects of the queen was very impressive.
The related events made me reflect on how clubs in Rotary have a very simple means of succession from one president to the next. Our club must identify a president-elect by the end of December, as required in our by-laws and club constitution. However, as yet we haven’t identified who we’ll pass on our tiara(s) to. So, we ask that you seriously consider becoming our president-elect for 2023-2024.
See you October 6th at our last meeting at The National Hotel.
Nevada City Rotary is moving its 1st and 3rd Thursday social gatherings to Round Table Pizza at 686 Sutton Way, near Staples in the Brunswick basin.
The site has a number of advantages: the staff will reserve the meeting room in the back for our club only, without conditions, on those two days of the month; we can use the room for free; the room is quite spacious, has plenty of tables and chairs, and there is plenty of parking outdoors. You can purchase your choice of beverages (wine, beer, & sodas) and food (pizza, appetizers, & generous salad bar.) Because of these advantages, our board has taken a vote and unanimously agreed to make the change, beginning October 20th.
Please note that our social this coming Thursday, October 6, will still be at The National Hotel, 2nd Floor.
This month we’ll meet as follows:
Oct. 6 - Last social at The National Hotel
Oct. 13- Lunch at Bistro 211 (Please RSVP)
Oct. 20 - First visit at Round Table Pizza
Oct. 27- Lunch at Bistro 211 (Please RSVP)
Join us each Thursday for fun gatherings and informative meetings!
Nevada County Health and Human Services is again offering a free drive through flu shot clinic on Tuesday October 4, 2022. We have a special relationship supporting these flu clinics. As in past years, Nevada City Rotary volunteers will assist with morning setup as well check-in and traffic control during the clinic. Chris is coordinating volunteers and has information on how to register to volunteer.
In celebration of World Polio Day, Nevada City Rotarians will participate in an End Polio Now Walk-About in Nevada City on Saturday, October 22nd. Since the Nevada City Farmers Market is open from 8:30am-1pm, we plan to set up an End Polio Now table in front of the Firehouse Museum next to Treats as we have done in recent years.
Some members will do a walk-about around 10 or 11am down Broad Street and through the market (mindful that solicitation in the Marketis strictly prohibited). Members are encouraged to wear their new (or older) End Polio Now T-Shirts both at the table and during the walk. Watch for details from Lynda.
If you ordered a new End Polio Now T-Shirt, our T-shirts will arrive in early October. You will be billed the $15 cost of the T-Shirt + tax and shipping. Thank you!
