Welcome to the Rotary Club of Nevada City

There's something that all Rotary club members have in common: We take action. As community volunteers, we reach out to neighbors in need. We build, support, and organize. We save lives. We work locally and globally.

The main objective of Rotary is service -- in the community, the workplace and the world. Around the world and around the corner, the 1.2 million men and women of Rotary
  • Get involved in our communities
  • Connect with other professionals
  • Share their time and experience with young people
  • Support global causes, such as eradicating polio
  • Use our skills to help others
Rotary is not just an organization. It is a medicine for the soul, a family we choose, not inherit,
and a gift we give to ourselves and the world!
Past President Cathy Wilcox-Barnes.

Whether you're a veteran volunteer or new to community service, we are looking for people like you. Contact us for more information about Rotary and how to join us.

Our Club in Action
Peter Newsom was truly a force that added to the success of our Upscale Resale Fundraiser last Spring. He provided heavy lifting -- literally and figuratively -- during every phase including collection, sorting, loading, setup, then tear down and reloading.

Nevada City Rotary was proud to present Peter with a Paul Harris Fellowship for his “Service Above Self”. Mom Chris presented the award to Peter with their family last week in Los Angeles.

Chris explained what a Paul Harris Fellow award is and that it is the best means of saying thank you from a Rotary Club. She presented Peter with his pin and award paper, and he seemed really very pleased! He said he was quite honored, and that it had been a real pleasure working with all of her Rotary friends. Chris also reminded Peter that 49er Breakfast Club presented his dad Bill with a Paul Harris fellowship in 2014, so he was pleased that they are both now within the Rotary circle.

What a joyful way to kick off the holiday season — celebrating with Rotary friends over a fabulous meal, playing Cathy’s quizzes, Angel Bingo, and Walt’s Name That Carol, and exchanging all sorts of enchanting White Elephant gifts. Some gifts were recycled from years past. And of course, our Renegade Rotary Rob hopped onto the scene!

A huge thank you to Cathy and Judy for all the details that went into planning and hosting our Holiday Party. As always, you outdid yourselves. Thank you Karen for your warm, inspiring welcome in President Louise’s place. The Yule Logs were gorgeous and delicious. Thanks to Sandy and Gloria for jumping in to help Cathy and Judy create them. And now Cathy, a quiz for you: Where and for what celebration did the yule log originate?

A warm thank you to Ken, Chad, and the whole Friar Tuck’s team for all the special touches they put into the delicious meal choices, their gracious service, and opening the restaurant just for us. Ken extended an intimate, personal welcome with his special Rotary Polio story from his year as President of the Rotary Club of Campbell.  Express your thanks by clicking Facebook and Sharing a Friar Tuck’s Review.
