With this Thursday September 29 being a 5th Thursday of the month, our club practice is to be “dark” on this day, meaning we will have no meeting. But that doesn’t mean our club is asleep! Read below for details of all the activities that our members are busy with. Membership, Fundraiser, and Environmental Sustainability committees continue to meet on a regular basis; if you would join in, just let one of your co-presidents know.
Besides all the service action listed below, our club was recently asked if we would like to donate to the District fund for the victims of the Mosquito Fire. Although the fire itself is under control, the victims are just beginning to put their lives back together, and will need support for a long time. A number of our members donated to this cause at the last meeting, and we raised more than $550.
If you would like to donate to our District 5190’s 501(c)3 Fire Victims’ Fund, you can mail a check payable to: Rotary District 5190 Community Fund

Our co-president Carolyn Feuille is back in town, after her trip abroad. It will be fun to hear about her experiences in England and France, as she takes over the gavel for the month of October. And stay tuned for details about our October meetings: we have some great speakers coming up, and also a possible change of venue for our socials!
Nevada County Health and Human Services is again offering a free drive through flu shot clinic on Tuesday October 4, 2022. We have a special relationship supporting these flu clinics. As in past years, Nevada City Rotary volunteers will assist with morning setup as well check-in and traffic control during the clinic. Chris is coordinating volunteers and has information on how to register to volunteer.
In celebration of World Polio Day, Nevada City Rotarians will participate in an End Polio Now Walk-About in Nevada City on Saturday, October 22nd. Since the Nevada City Farmers Market is open from 8:30am-1pm, we plan to set up an End Polio Now table in front of the Firehouse Museum next to Treats as we have done in recent years.
Some members will do a walk-about around 10 or 11am down Broad Street and through the market (mindful that solicitation in the Marketis strictly prohibited). Members are encouraged to wear their new (or older) End Polio Now T-Shirts both at the table and during the walk. Watch for details from Lynda.
If you ordered a new End Polio Now T-Shirt, our T-shirts will arrive in early October. You will be billed the $15 cost of the T-Shirt + tax and shipping. Thank you!

Each summer Rotary Youth Leadership Awakening (RYLA) offers an intense, transformative experience for High School students from across Northern California and Nevada. Nevada City Rotary was proud to host Jessica Lake from Nevada Union and Jason Lehman from Ghidotti Early College High School at Camp RYLA (III) this summer.
Jessica and Jason shared highlights of their RYLA experiences and the impact the weeklong camp had on their lives. Jessica went on to serve as a youth counselor at Rotary Eighth Grade Leadership (REGL) this month which further deepened her RYLA experience. Jessica with her father Zack and Jason with his mother Alison Lehman were guests of our Club for lunch on Thursday September 22.
