Nevada City Rotarians, Family, and Friends,

Shortly after our most amazing Rotary Club of Nevada City meeting last Thursday hearing Dr. Scott Kellermann describe his participation in the Batwa Impenetrable Forest, I found myself as an event security guard at the Grass Valley Thursday Night Market.

My post was across from the Del Oro theater. Dozens of young people often in groups of boys and girls were having a great time together and all of a sudden one of the young ladies looked over toward me, pointed and asked…”Is that ‘up doc’?” I paused, and answered …”What’s ‘Up Doc'?”… She had me.

So I pulled out my pocket notes from lunch with the Doc, called her over and was able to recount some of his story which she and her friend seemed to be enjoying: “Where there is Hope there is No Darkness.” As I told more of the experience, I quoted Scott when he shared…”Safe and Hope.”

It was then, those of us at the Hive may recall, how he “welled up”. The Uganda Pigmy story gripped us by the heart too, and I could see it caught the young lady as well. Thank you Scott for bringing the pictures, the short videos and some timely humor, as well, to further our understanding of The Rotary International impact reaching all the way to Nevada County.

Believe me, I could go on and on. So many of us will carry this story forever. The Denney’s were there in Africa some 30 years ago and shared with us their milestone of 60 years of wedded bliss - June 12!

Chris (who had also traveled to Uganda) did the speaker introduction and the audience included, Gayle and Dave, Robin and Tom, Cathy, Louise, Jim, Carolyn,  Paula, Tally, Lynda, John and guest Sabine, Ken, PE Andrea, Karen, Mr. Stickel, Dennis, and No Tie/New Heart Tom along with yours truly!
