As I look out my window, I see opaque air that looks like San Francisco fog, and the Air Quality Index is 397—hazardous for all groups. It’s hard not to feel like it’s oppressive. But as bad as it may be here in Nevada County, we are so fortunate that our homes are intact, and brave firefighters are fighting under extremely difficult conditions to keep us safe. There is always something to be grateful for, if we just look around!
Meanwhile, our intrepid co-president Carolyn and her husband Bob are getting into some cool, wet weather in Cornwall!
After this, they’re headed off to France, before returning home the last week of September.
We have the mid-term elections coming up in November, and one of the proposals that will be voted on is Measure V—Nevada County’s “Wildfire Prevention, Emergency Services and Disaster Readiness” Measure. While Rotary is a non-political organization, and cannot take a position on either candidates or propositions, we can learn about the provisions of a given piece of legislation. Accordingly, our guest this Thursday Sept. 15 at 5:30pm at the National Hotel’s 2nd floor Salon will be Caleb Dardick, Asst. CEO of Nevada County. Caleb will give us background info. on why the supervisors proposed this measure, what it does and does not provide for, and what the financial impacts will be. Come join us, and be ready with questions!
