We’re two months into the Rotary year, and I’m beginning to feel a rhythm: one week at the Bistro 221, the next week at The National. I hope the rest of you are also starting to get into the rhythm, and that pretty soon it will start to feel automatic. Of course our beginnings at both of these venues have not been without their hiccups, but rest assured that your co-presidents are working on the issues!
Join us as we return to The National for our social this week. Feel free to purchase refreshments from the downstairs bar and bring them to our meeting on the second floor! No RSVPs are required for socials.
After preparing for and hosting a wonderful visit from our Global Scholar Evani this last week, Carolyn and husband Bob are taking their first trip abroad since the pandemic. They’ll be gone the first three weeks of September, so they won’t be with us in person. But Carolyn has said she will try to tune in when possible, and hopefully she will at least send us some photos so we can share in on their fun.
You may have noted that Carolyn was the “lead” co-president at most of our gatherings in August. We are planning on continuing that mode of operation, alternating the lead position month-by-month, with Chris chairing things in September. But feel free to talk with, email, or call either of us at any time with your comments or concerns. We want to hear your feedback.
Speaking of feedback, some of you may remember at the Board planning retreat we said that we wanted to meet with each member individually, to find out how you’re doing, hear your feedback and concerns, and generally learn what’s on your mind. Carolyn and I will each contact half of the members list, and invite you (and your partner if you wish) for tea or coffee and conversation, hopefully over the next two months. We’re very much looking forward to these visits!

All SAA will be able to attend whatever sessions they plan to attend so it's just at the start and in-between sessions (and maybe lunch). If anyone is willing to help out, please contact Cathy right away.
The training you’ve been waiting for is happening soon, Sept. 10, 2022, at Truckee Meadows Community College with registration starting at 8:30am. Detailed program attached. But HURRY, time is running out -- click to Register NOW!!
Nevada City Rotary was delighted to extend a warm welcome to Rotary Global Scholar, Evani Radiya-Dixit and her parents on Thursday August 25. Evani presented an inspiring overview of her year in Cambridge conducting research at the Minderoo Centre for Technology and Democracy at the University of Cambridge as a Rotary Global Scholar. Her focus was the ethical use of facial recognition technologies.
Evani reaffirmed that her research aligns with Rotary's work in peacebuilding and conflict prevention by revealing the risks and harms of facial recognition and by informing tech policy in a manner that mitigates discrimination and promotes peace.
Pictured with Evani and her parents are District Grants chair Bill Boon and the Nevada City Rotary Global Scholarship Committee Co-President Carolyn Feuille, Treasure/PP Tom Ryan and PP Tom Milam.
