We’re still feeling the excitement of being named the District 5190 Outstanding Club of the Year, chosen out of 61 Clubs!!
In making the announcement, Jeff noted that Assistant Governors and leadership throughout the District had made recommendations for Clubs of Excellence. He specifically talked about our Club’s Environmental leadership with Lithium Ion Batteries and Plastic recycling and having an active Environmental Committee. And we had achievements in many areas:
Membership growth
Sponsoring a new Interact Club at SAEL
Leveraging projects through District grants and partnering with other Clubs to support:
BFFY Cafe as an Area
Menstrual Hygiene kits with 49er and Bishop
Visibility within our community and District through our new website, newsletter as well as Press Releases
Community engagement including Polio Plus in Nevada City
District engagement - 9 members at this year’s conference; last year we were at 12
Plus we are sponsoring our second Global scholar
And our ongoing community health partnershipwith Los Barriles.
You may also remember that we first heard from Lynda Guthrie about the Amigos de Guatemala program about 2 1/2 years ago, and soon afterward our club decided to sponsor a middle-school student, Wendy, which we’ve done ever since then. Lynda will be bringing us up-to-date on the program at this Thursday’s lunch meeting May 11, including details of her recent visit to that country. Since I (Chris) have had the pleasure of translating Wendy’s letters, which she sends on a regular basis every 3 months, I will fill in a few details about Wendy’s progress. We think you will this a very interesting program, and you'll be happy to realize what an amazing difference you can make in the life of a young student!

We want to celebrate our Club’s recognition by making our lunch meeting this Thursday May 11 a little special. Bring noisemakers or something festive, wear your party clothes if you’d like, and we will have a special dessert! I am so proud of you all, and I know that this spirit of service and camaraderie will continue into the next Rotary year.
Speaking of which…It’s hard to believe we’re nearing the end of another Rotary year (June 30), but it’s true. This last weekend, our trio of presidents-elect held a planning retreat for the coming board members at the McDonalds’ lovely LWW home. We talked about new opportunities for service and socializing, which you will hear more about over the coming months. Suffice it to say…we’re headed for another great year!
