We have something very special happening this week at our Nevada City Rotary Club meeting: we are welcoming a new member into the Club! It’s the first time since before the pandemic that this has happened, and we’re especially excited because it is none other than our own Nevada City Police Chief, Dan Foss. We are thrilled that Dan has chosen to transfer his membership from the Rotary Club of Madera to our Club, and are looking forward to getting to know him and his family better. Chief Dan will be addressing our club as our presenter, on Nov. 3, but in the meantime, please join us this Thursday Sept. 8 to welcome him.
The president’s message is usually pretty upbeat, but sometimes we need to address serious issues, especially if it means adhering to the first question of the Four-Way Test: telling the truth, and the fourth question: being beneficial to all concerned. Accordingly, this week we will be showing the second part of the series, Climate Solutions 101, entitled: Stopping Climate Change. We’ll deal with some of the sobering facts surrounding the weather challenges we see all around us, but we’ll also be presented with ways that we can work for the benefit of all humankind.
We are back at Bistro 221 this week so please RSVP and join us for lunch!
Carolyn and I have started scheduling our one-on-one visits with club members, and a few have already taken place. They’ve been fruitful, honest discussions, and we appreciate the time that you have or will be taking to meet with us. We will let you know some of the insights, suggestions, and lessons learned when we have assimilated all the information. Thank you…every person’s input is important!
Join us Thursday September 8 as we induct Chief Dan Foss as the newest member of Nevada City Rotary! Dan joined the Rotary Club of Madera in 2019.
Dan takes the lead as Nevada City Chief of Police after a 20-year career in law enforcement with the City of Madera Police Department where he most recently served as a Lieutenant. During his career Dan has served as a Field Training Officer (FTO), Detective, Patrol Sergeant, K9 Supervisor, Internal Affairs Investigator, and Crisis Negotiator. He has also served as the division commander over the divisions of patrol, administration, and investigations.
We are delighted to WELCOME Chief Dan to our Club and our Community, along with his wife Lisa and their 16-year-old daughter Vivian!
It’s time for second helpings! The Nevada City Rotary Club is once again presenting “The Hungry Games II” a major fundraiser dedicated to food, wine and the fine art of gourmet cooking on Sunday, November 13, from 4 to 8pm at Peace Lutheran Church.
Our Fundraising Committee has been working diligently to put plans in place for our 2022 Hungry Games II Second Helpings event Sunday November 13, 2022. Church’sFellowship Center is an inviting venue with lots of amenities for hosting an event such as this. Jason Jillson and The Ham Standcrew are planning a fun Iron Chef's Cooking Competition.
Once again, we will host an exclusive restaurant package raffle. We are also working with Pacific Auction Company who will host a live and silent auction with an amazing assortment of auction items and excursions. Watch this space as details unfold.
Have we tickled your taste buds? Much more to come.
Nevada City Rotary enjoyed a fun and relaxing 1st Thursday Social at The National with our own Karen McDonald as keynote facilitator! Karen delighted Rotarians with both our own hands-on REGL experiences and her personal stories of what led her to teaching, Rotary, and head cheerleader for Mount Saint MaryAcademy students who are headed to REGL.
Dennis, Tom, Doug and Cathy engaged in a "low ropes" exercise as Karen coaches and talks about "her kids" who will be participating in REGL this month. Obviously a proud teacher at Mt St Mary, Karen spoke about each individual student and her expectations of what they will gain from their upcoming REGL camp experience. She is an inspiration clearly to her students and to all of us!
Join other District Rotarians for a training event that was designed for YOU!!
Cathy Wilcox-Barnes still needs a few more Rotarians to serve as SAAto help direct people to breakouts between the main session and probably, since it's at Truckee Meadows College again, to help with serving lunch. All SAA will be able to attend whatever sessions they plan to attend so it's just at the start and in-between sessions (and maybe lunch). If anyone is willing to help out, please contact Cathy right away.
Board Meetings are held on the second Monday of the month at4:00pm via Zoom. Our next meeting will be September 12 at 4:00pm virtual via Zoom. Not a Board member but want to join us? Contact Robin or reply to this Rotario for instructions. All club members are encouraged to attend a meeting. Location subject to change, please ask.
