Nevada City Rotary and PDG Doug McDonald were proud to induct Chief Dan Foss as the newest member of Nevada City Rotary at our Thursday Social meeting on September 15! Dan joined the Rotary Club of Madera in 2019.  Dan shared a snippet about why he became a Rotarian because of the pivotal role Rotary played in the launch and expansion of OLIVE to create a safe house for young girls who are victims of sex trafficking.  We will learn more when he is speaker for our November 3 meeting.

We are delighted to WELCOME Chief Dan to our Club and our Community, along with his wife Lisa and their 16-year-old daughter Vivian!

Dan took the lead as Nevada City Chief of Police after a 20-year career in law enforcement with the City of Madera Police Department where he most recently served as a Lieutenant. During his career Dan has served as a Field Training Officer (FTO), Detective, Patrol Sergeant, K9 Supervisor, Internal Affairs Investigator, and Crisis Negotiator. He has also served as the division commander over the divisions of patrol, administration, and investigations.

In 2015 Dan established his own non-profit organization known as Olive (Overcoming Limitations through Intervention, Value and Empowerment) , which provides safety and security to victims of human trafficking. Foss worked through the hurdles to open a much-needed safe house in Madera through his non-profit. It is the only safe house in the county that focuses on victims of sex trafficking.

In December of 2021, he was presented with “Non-Profit of the Year” from California State Senator Anna Caballero.

We look forward to partnering with Dan, welcoming his family including two dogs and a cat, and hearing stories of travels around California and Pacific Northwest in their RV.

Also take note, Dan will be our program speaker at our Club Social on November 3.
