Greetings to all Nevada City Rotary members and friends,
Three Reasons to Attend the District Conference and Club Leadership Assembly this Spring
The District conferences every spring are partly a business meeting, but the real value for most of us is the opportunity to learn, network, reconnect with colleagues and friends, and get inspired by others’ projects and accomplishments.
Discover and participate in Rotary programs new to us. I went to a conference session in 2016 on Camp RYLA which prompted me to volunteer as a camp counselor. It was an exhilarating “Rotary Moment” of engaging with 16 and 17 year-olds discovering who they are. I was so impressed by the program that I served again in 2017. If it weren’t for the conference, I wouldn’t have had this wonderful Rotary experience.
Get informed about Rotary and the broad scope of Rotary’s impact on the planet, such as District efforts in disaster response, especially for recovery from fires. We learned about the Nevada City 49er club’s multi-year dental care project “Smiles without Borders” in Tijuana, Mexico.
Meet like-minded Rotarians at breakout sessions, make connections and form friendships. I’ve met several Rotarians who love international service as I do and reconnect with them at conferences. This is how I met Ramona Delmas and arranged for our club to get her help with forming a "Sewing Circle” to make menstrual hygiene kits and promote girls’ empowerment.
And, of course, it’s a time to party! Celebrate our club’s accomplishments! Sing & dance! All this value for $265 is a bargain. And new Rotary members get a $100 discount!
The District Conference, April 28-30, has a broad focus on RI and a strong social focus, whereas Club Leadership Assembly has more learning sessions about the Avenues of Service and leadership roles. Club Leadership Assembly will be offered virtually later in May.
