Rotarians around the world celebrate October 24 as World Polio Day in conjunction with Rotary’s global campaign to End Polio Now.

Last week, Caleb Dardick presented intimate stories from his newly released Adventures of Superfreak: My Childhood along the Hippy Trail as a young boy traveling with his family. At the wheel was his dad, Sam Dardick.

One of Nevada County California’s own, Sam Dardick changed the face of polio and those with physical disabilities.  As a young teenager Sam Dardick contracted polio which left him paraplegic. His courage, compassion for self and others, and bold activism in many realms, inspired his family and community throughout his full life. He was a global change agent as an urban planner, Nevada County Supervisor, disability rights activist, farmer, and All-American wheelchair athlete.

In 2017, Nevada City Rotarian Cathy Wilcox-Barnes hiked the Camino Santiago across northern Spain in Sam Dardick's honor raising awareness and money of Rotary’s commitment to End Polio. At the time, Caleb graciously shared memories of his Dad's special life in this interview with Robin.

We are reposting this 7 minute video both to celebrate the life of Sam Dardick and Caleb’s release of Adventures of Superfreak.
