Staying Connected May 5, 2022

Dear Rotarians and Friends,

Thursday May 5 - 5:30pm IN PERSON ONLY
Presidents Social Celebration

Registration is now definitely closed for the District Conference 2022, Voyage to Change Lives.

In fact, the very successful 2022 conference has come and gone.  There is a lot of gratitude that needs to go out to district leadership, the thirteen areas and the fifty-two clubs that make up  the district for all pulling in the same direction to make it work as well as it did.  I don’t believe that there was another club in the district that provided more personnel and leadership to the conference than our very own Nevada City Rotary Club.  The Conference Chair, Vice Chair General Sessions, Registrar, Sergeant-at-Arms Chair, a breakout speaker and a number of Sergeants-at-Arms all came from our ranks.

Of 13 Project of the Year Awards, we received 4!!!

Our Project of the Year Awards include

  • Environmental: Recycling Plastics
  • Disease Prevention and Treatment - Nevada County Pediatric COVID Clinics
  • Disaster Response: Digging to rebuild Woolman Garden after Jones Fire
  • Multi-Club Environmental: Lithium-Ion Battery Recycling with Grass Valley, GV South and Nevada City 49er Breakfast

We had such a strong involvement in the conference that we have decided that this week’s meeting is the appropriate place for those who attended the conference to be our program.  Everyone who was there will have a chance to reminisce and share with those who couldn’t attend what happened, how it happened and what made it work.

Due to the fact that both Tom and Robin M put in 15-to-16-hour days during the conference and a number of those leading up to the conference, and they are the ones who produce the Zoom part of our hybrid meetings, I have decided to have this be a live meeting only so that they can fully engage, enjoy and participate in the meeting without having to fret over technology.  So, one more time, there will NOT be a zoom link to this Thursday’s meeting

Nevada City Rotary Garage Sale - SAVE THE DATE!

Now that the conference is over, it’s time to turn our focus towards our upcoming Garage Sale on Saturday May 28 at Dave’s Auto Repair. Clean out your cupboards, closets, attics, garage and storage bins with all of that stuff that you’ve been holding on to and wish you could find a good home for, to be put to good use while making a little money for your club.  This is going to be a one-day event and another opportunity to get together for fun and fellowship while gaining a full measure of Rotary spirit.

Now is the time to put all that Pandemic House Cleaning to good use. Start digging out those “treasures” you discovered, pricing them and setting them aside for our Rotary Garage Sale.

Saturday, May 28, 2022 at Dave’s Auto.

Fun Ahead!

We have some great programs and fellowship opportunities in the last two months of this Rotary year as we demote Dave and I and we turn the keys to the bus over to Carolyn and Chris.

So, buckle up as we scream down the highway towards the end of one Rotary Year and the road signs read “Fun Ahead” as we approach the next.

See you Thursday – live and in person.

Your Dues and Happy/Sad Shares make a difference!

Your Happy/Sad shares give us glimpses of what is going on in your life beyond Rotary.  They are special moments together especially since so much of our time is on Zoom.  Your associated "bucks" provide a base for us to continue our special services to our community and beyond.

REMINDER - Please send in your Happy Sad/Bucks

You will not be billed for your Happy Sad/Bucks pledges.  We ask that you track your own pledges and submit your payment at the end of each month.  Here is a Happy/Sad Bucks tracking form you can download and use to track your pledges.   As always, payments go to Nevada City Rotary, PO Box 74, Nevada City, CA 95959

Recycling bins around town

We blew through 1 ton of plastics!!! Congrats to Nevada City Rotary and to our community!!!!

And shared our story at Conference including a bin full of plastics Co-Pres Tom collected!

Add your clean stretchable plastics to other bins around town - Briar Patch, B&C, the Library, Restore, Peace Lutheran, Nevada City and Wolf Creek/Grass Valley CoHousing.  And we are adding Wild Birds Unlimited!
