December here we come!
Now that we’ve celebrated Thanksgiving—a time to be thankful and eat one of the best meals of the year with those we love—our club has an additional reason to celebrate in the run up to Christmas!
Since the last meeting, one of our Nevada City Rotary Club members has been nominated for a very significant role: Dennis Geare has been named District Governor Nominee Designate, aka DGND! His term to serve as District Governor will be 2024-25. When Dennis expressed interest in becoming a governor, he filled out an application which was approved by our club leadership and forwarded to District 5190’s Nominating Committee.
This year’s Nominating Committee was chaired by Past District Governor John Sullivan. He and the four other most recent Past District Governors served as the voting members of the committee.
Between now and when Dennis assumes office, he will undergo extensive training, culminating in the annual Rotary International Assembly and, along with other governors in his class, running the Presidents Elect Training for many of our Zone’s incoming presidents during the 2024-25 year.
Nevada City Rotarians are aware that several of our members have devoted significant amounts of time in service to our district. Dennis is among those, and he is well deserving of this honor. Congratulations, Dennis Geare!
In addition to celebrating Dennis, our program this week will spotlight Inn Town Campground with Erin and Dan Thiem. Did you know, Inn Town Campground is a full service campground with pitch your own tent sites, RV hook ups and glamping tents in downtown Nevada City, California? The family owned and operated campground was built by Erin & Dan Thiem, owners of the Outside Inn and opened for business in July, 2016. Campground amenities include: 3000 square foot communal building with kitchen, living room, dining area, camp store, laundry, bathrooms with showers, seasonal swimming pool. They offer outdoor movie screenings (weather permitting). With a range of accommodations they offer camping options while creating a community feel.

In the Works Next Week:
Reforesting Woolman Center - Sunday afternoon December 5
Woolman Center is intending to plant 4,000 small Douglas Fir, Ponderosa Pine, Giant Sequoia seedlings in a patchwork of small groves to reforest areas burned by the Jones Fire. Please contact Chris if you want to participate on the afternoon of Sunday December 5.
Penzance Bulbs ~ Monday, December 6 from 10am - 1pm
'Tis the season for bulb planting in Penzance Park! Always a fun time together digging in the dirt anticipating the blooms to follow. The soil should be soft and easy to work!
Bring gloves and tools for digging and planting! Let Susie and Cathy know if you plan to join us -- or just show up!
Pediatric COVID Clinic with Nevada County Health Services - Second Round December 7
Kim Blix from Nevada County Public Health would love our help again during the second pediatric Covid clinic at the Veteran's Memorial Building on Tuesday December 7th from noon till 5:30 or 6. They are exploring shifting a little earlier for opening to the public, but otherwise it will be the same format.
Several have already volunteered with Susie, check with Susie if you want to volunteer to support this very important clinic. Since check in and orientation take place around 12:30, we will need volunteers who can be there at the start of event.
Los Barriles, Mexico awaits us again for the Healthy Water Project
Our work project with our partner club, the Los Barriles Cabo de Este Rotary Club, will take place from Feb. 17-19, with travel & recreation days before and after. What’s new this year is to devote our time, energy and learning to two projects: The Healthy Water Project and health screening for school kids.
For more details and the District registration form, we created a page on our website. Go to our NCRotary.org site and visit D5190 2022 Clean Water Project under International in the left sidebar. Please contact Carolyn Feuille with your questions: cfeuille@gmail.com and phone 650-867-4564.
