This Week
We kickoff the first of the "First Thursday Mixer" tonight. Our regular meeting will be in the evening at the National from 5:30 to 6:30pm. Bring your family and friends for some fun. $5 cover includes Hors d'oeuvres, no host bar.

Last Week
It's not often that we get the opportunity for a fellow Rotarian to provide the program, but our last meeting was the exception. Janis Aydelott, Outreach Program Coordinator for California Employers Association, shared her work in finding employment for professionals who have been terminated in the prime of their careers. Working in group sessions and on one on one, primarily with men and women in their 40's, 50's and 60's, she and others in her federally and state funded department assist experienced and valuable out of work professionals return to the work force. Thanks, Janis, for your encouraging and informational presentation.

Nevada City Rotary Flash Mobs Penn Valley
On Tuesday 8/27 members of the Nevada City Club interrupted the opening ceremonies of the Penn Valley Club with a not in tune rendition of, "For you are a jolly good club" as a tribute to the PV Rotarians who provided many hours of support at the fair grounds food booth this year. Particular recognition was given to Barbara Ross with a PHF+5 for her dedication every year at the fair booth as well as the work she does to coordinate scholarships and other youth programs in behalf of all of the clubs in Area 4. Donation cutoff is 1 week away!
Time is closing in fast and we need everyone to turn in donation now. If you need help getting your donations, please ask for help. We have a committe for that. Please contact Jeff Wenzel.

There is some help if you need it for selling tickets to the upcoming auction.

Second, here is a nice script you can use when you approach someone, either in person or on the phone.

"Have you heard about the NC Rotary Auction? Our rotary club is having its annual fund raising event on Friday 9/27 @ 6 pm. The name of the event is “Adventures and Wine” (see attached flyer). There will be a silent & a live auction and all the proceeds go toward our "Focus on Youth" programs. We are offering a special ticket price of $10 person through 8/31, after that tickets are $20 and it includes a glass of wine & appetizers. There will also be a no host bar and lots of great items to bid on. Please contact me for tickets & I’ll get them to you. I hope you’ll be able to attend.

For Thought
When we find ourselves stuck on a negative thought, we can decide to stop and replace it with a positive thought. At first our positive thought may not dislodge another one and we may have to think of several to start them rolling along. If we practice, we will find it becomes easier for that first good thought to shake loose others. We will see our lives change when we begin to look at the positive side of things.
