On Thursday we enjoyed Julia Lakes present Bear Yuba Land Trust's Monarch Meadows Project, partnering with local schools, Double Dog Native Nursery, Plant the Seeds, Rotarians, volunteers, and supporters.
Our discussion noted that a number of local butterflies look very similar. Here's a quick guide for checking whether or not a butterfly is a monarch. Also here’s a reference about Monarch and Milkweed Misconceptions.
Heads up: this week is fifth Thursday so we have no meeting!
Emin Askerov was awarded the Medal of Honor by the President of Kazakhstan on January 20, 2026. In 2015, Emin was one of a visiting team of young entrepreneurs from Kazakhstan sponsored by Nevada City Rotary and the US State Department’s Open World Program. Given Emin’s specific focus, the group visited Pride Industries to explore his special interest in employment opportunities for people with disabilities.
Today, Emin is a leading social entrepreneur in Kazakhstan with 20 years of professional experience. Also in 2015, he established a social enterprise called GreenTAL, which enhances the lives of individuals with disabilities by providing training and subsequent employment opportunities.
