Where do you set your radio dial in an emergency or community concern? Do you still have an alarm clock that wakes you up to the news on a local radio station? Or as Kim described, where do you go to hear the most creative and attention getting advertisements? Might be KNCO or Star94FM. Nevada City Rotarian Kim Stewart is behind the scenes and on the front lines as Sales Manager at our beloved local radio station.
At last week's Social, Kim highlighted the value of local radio speaking directly to our local audience when it comes to community outreach and effective marketing. She built the case for the power of bridging digital marketing with radio as a powerful approach for “warming up the algorithm” so the audience is primed for your message. Kim shared fun examples of KNCO ads to hone her point that radio gets into “the theater of the mind” and thus radio ads have the highest recall of any other media. She also noted that radio is a “green industry” based on the thousands upon thousands of low tech radio towers installed decades ago that don’t require a lot of power. Especially proud, she noted that in 1989 KNCO was nationally recognized for broadcast excellence among major stations across the nation with the NAB Crystal Radio Award for coverage of the 49er Fire. We were so lucky to hear her craft talk. Over the years, our Club has partnered with KNCO/Star94FM in many ways. We could not host Paws and A Cause without Kim and emcee Paul Haas along with the generous support of Tom Fitzsimmons and the radio team.
Editor's note: Speaking of awards, President Louise had an important reason for not being at our Social. Thursday night the Nevada County Association of California School Administrators honored Louise with the Retired Administrator of the YearAward recognizing her extraordinary leadership and contributions over her extended career as a teacher, principal, Superintendent of NJUHSD, and Member, Nevada County Board of Education. Congratulations, Louise. We all are very proud of you!
