After carefully watching and waiting to see if we would have a snow day, we were so fortunate to be able to gather together as scheduled on March 13 at 12:15 at Bodhi-Hive. A panel from Nevada County Pride shared their personal stories to help us really grow in our Rotary vision of promoting peace and understanding throughout the world. Through the eyes of a gay man, a gay woman, a trans woman and a trans man we learned about when they knew, how they knew, how they came out and what their lives are like today. With kindness and courage, they helped us understand how to be an ally and, for me, to continue to stand up for being “fair to all concerned.” We’re looking forward to June 1 in Nevada City when we kick off Pride Month with the raising of the flag in Nevada City. On Sunday, March 16 we were delighted to host the Area 4 Foundation Roundup at the Horsemen’s Lodge in Grass Valley. With a casual western themed event we had a chance to honor our Paul Harris Fellows throughout Area 4 and celebrate projects of each of our clubs. Our keynote speakers were Julia Amaral and Mimi Simmons representing the Kellermann Foundation. The Kellermann Foundation is committed to providing hope and health in Uganda. It is a shining example of what one Rotarian with a vision and the support of Rotary International can grow into for good in our world. It was absolutely amazing to see the progression from Dr. Kellermann treating people under the ficus tree adorned with hanging IV equipment to the modern hospital, clinics, and schools that are there today. On March 20 we’ll be back for our 5:30 social at Round Table Pizza in Grass Valley. I’m super excited to hear Karen McDonald’scraft talk. When we’re back at Bodhi-Hive on March 27, we will hear from Lynda Guthrie and Carolyn Feuille about their recent trip to Guatemala to visit with our sponsored student Wendy and deliver 180 menstrual hygiene kits! And save the date Saturday, May 17 for SAEL Interacts Harmonius Wolf Trail Race!
Spring time is tulip time at Ananda's Crystal Hermitage Gardens. Each year some 20,000 tulips are replanted to create a lush garden display of some 100 varieties of pink, purple, orange and yellow tulips.
