Good things happening for our Nevada City Rotary Club!

Our first social meeting at the historic National Hotel started with a bang!  I heard animated conversations, saw happy smiles, and felt a friendly energy.  In fact, I had to ring the bell six times to get everyone’s attention to get seated.  Chris and I were very pleased with our new meeting space and hope you are too.  (And, yes, the issue with the upstairs bar is being addressed.)

Congratulations go out to Robin Milam for her outstanding re-design of our website and skill in converting the old one to the ClubRunner platform. The website – nevadacityrotary.org – is very intuitive to use and full of high-res, well-chosen photos & graphics.

From our KNCO interview last Friday, Chris and I were pleased  that our talk-show host, Tom Fitzsimmons, recognized and initiated questions about a few of our achievements, such as youth scholarships and environmental projects, including the lithium battery collection last April. He certainly contributed to our positive reputation in Nevada County.

Happening this Thursday:  Our first lunch meeting at Bistro 221 is also an opportunity to meet our District Governor Jeff Gabriel and his wife Jane.  He’s very personable and lighthearted; so expect to have a good time as well as a delicious meal.  Don’t forget to RSVP by Wednesday afternoon. Reminder: There’s a $10 fee for those attending without lunch.

Our historian, Cathy Wilcox-Barnes, will lead a tour of historic places in downtown Nevada City for our visiting DG and wife.  We are all welcome to join them, starting at the National Hotel at 10:45 am. and ending at noon.

August 25 meeting at 12:15:  Our special speaker & visitor is none other than Evani Radiya-Dixit, our Global Scholar who’s just returned from Cambridge, England where she’s been conducting research on police use of facial recognition technology.

Thank you all!!!  Read more details in our Nevada City Rotary Club Stories...
