Nevada City Rotarians, Family, and Friends,

Let it snow,
     Let it snow,
          Let it snow!

Oh, the weather outside is frightful
But the fire is so delightful
And since we're calling it a snowday,
Let it snow! Let it snow! Let it snow!

Enjoy hot cocoa or your favorite hot toddy and the Winter Olympics from the comfort of your own home!

For the Good of the Order, Nevada City Rotary is canceling Thursday, February 19 as a snow day!

Chief Dan will speak another night!

Stay warm, be safe, and enjoy the snow!

Best regards,
Pearce

Nevada County Reads - February, March, and April

Alison and Andrea announced Nevada County Reads 2026 kick off event that was held on Friday.  Alison, Cathy, Andrea, Louise, and Carolyn participated in a tree planting to launch the program in partnership with Nevada County Superintendent of Schools and Friends of the Nevada County Libraries. This year's book is Daniel Mason’s North Woods, a spellbinding novel that follows a single house deep in the forests of New England across centuries of human and natural history.

Pick up a free copy of North Woods beginning February 6th at any Nevada County Library location!

Wild and Scenic Film Festival

A number of Nevada City Rotarians are actively involved with the Wild and Scenic Film Festival February 19-23, 2026. PE Andrea is clearly up to her eyeballs with SYRCL planning, Jim has a beautifully creative photo on display at the Rood Center, Tom Milam is again on the Tech Team, and we suspect others are also signed up to volunteer at South Yuba River Citizens League’s 24th Annual Wild & Scenic Film Festival.

Monarch Butterfly Art Show at Treats Ice Cream February 1-28

The Monarch Butterfly Art Show opened on February 1, 2026, at Treats Ice Cream Shop in Nevada City. Seventeen local artists contributed paintings, drawings, collages, and sculptures inspired by monarch butterflies and their caterpillars.  The public is invited to view—and purchase—these unique monarch butterfly art pieces at Treats through the end of February. Proceeds from artwork sales will fund milkweed seed for school seed-planting education programs, Bear Yuba Land Trust Monarch Meadow restoration projects, and Mike the Bee Guy’s educational classes.

Our 2025 Earth Fest Display focused on Monarch butterflies which connected us with Peggy Wright, BYLT, and the Planting the Seed initiative, a community-based effort to transform Nevada County into a monarch flyway. In conjunction with Planting the Seed, BYLT is partnering with schools, Rotary Clubs, and Double Dogwood Native Nursery & The Feral Land Project create and nurture Monarch Meadow gardens across Western Nevada County. More information is available at BYLT Monarch Meadow Project and FB Nevada County Monarchs and Milkweeds.
Los Barriles Project 2026
