What a fun meeting we had at the Hive last Thursday! Celine Negrete from the Onyx Theatre (Nevada City 7 Hills District) explained how their unique movie-projecting company is designed and thrives under the umbrella of GEZELLIG. New word/term? It is Dutch, translating to roughly mean….cozy, quaint, social and enjoyable all at once. That The ONYX is!
And free popcorn cards were given to us lucky ones at the meeting.
And we had a fun Conga line with Jess.
This week (Social…Round Table…5:30 pm Thursday March 5) we welcome just Past District Governor 5190 Dennis Geare for his discussion-of-choice. Join us also as we induct our newest member transferring from Woodland Luna Vista, Armando Salud-Ambriz who is Nevada County’s new clerk-recorder/registrar of voters.
And THANKS, everyone, for all the internal and on-going communications you are bringing forward … snow weather challenges, tragic accidents, and sad news such as the passing of fellow Rotarian Eric Trygg. And good news, too, such as a successful Wild & Scenic Film Festival and Lynda and Chris’s Guatemala trip.
Take the time to mark your calendars for our Thursday meetings and promise yourself to make at least two a month. (I’m keeping track!!!)
Nevada City Rotary crew is off again next week to Los Barriles -- our 10th trip partnering with the Rotary Club of Los Barriles Cabo Este. Supplies and gifts for students are packed. Many of those have included partnering with East Cape Health Clinic to host multiple wellness clinics in the Los Barriles area. Again this year, students will be screened for diabetes, eye sight, dental, respiratory, and skeletal issues along with overall wellness checks.
Join the team: March 9 -14, 2026 for an unforgettable experience.
