Nevada City Rotarians, Family, and Friends,

We've spent this summer proving that Rotary doesn't know the meaning of a slow season, but here's the flip side of all that buzz: even the busiest of bees need to return to the hive. All that hustle only works because we also make room to rest — a quiet evening, a lazy Saturday morning, an afternoon with nothing on the calendar at all. Service and stillness aren't opposite; they're partners. Downtime isn't a luxury we tack on after everything else is done — it's what makes the busy parts sustainable. Rest is what lets us show up fully for the moments that matter; the next event, the next neighbor, the next cause.

Join us for National Night Out & Kids Color Fun Run this Tuesday, August 4th and be sure to come see us at the Nevada County Fair. We’ll be hanging in the Kids' Corner with First 5 Nevada County handing out free books to the kiddos!

This week we are gathering for our club social meeting at Round Table Pizza on August 6th at 5:30pm where yours truly will be giving a very short literacy focused craft talk followed by more information about Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library Nevada County. If you’d like to come take a gander at all the cool swag we have and learn more about how to help get kids enrolled in this wonderful program, please join us.

Speaking of all the ways our club helps to support the youth in our community, check out this letter from our most recent Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) student

So, as you fill in your calendar this month, make time for both the buzz and the quiet - block out time for service and celebration, and just as importantly, block out some time for nothing at all. Even the busiest of people need time to rejuvenate. Balance is what keeps this club, and this community, running strong all year long.

Yours in Service

Madame President Andrea

National Night Out ~ Aug 4, 2026

This year’s National Night Out & Kids Color Fun Run returns to Pioneer Park in Nevada City on Tuesday, August 4 from 6:00pm-7:30pm.

Sign up now or contact Cathy directly
if you can volunteer and/or bake up cookies!

Our local law enforcement agencies know how to throw a fabulous community party! NCPD Chief Dan Foss and Nevada City Police Department (NCPD) will again fire up their hot dog grill. Nevada City Rotarians will be serving fresh baked cookies to kids of all ages.

A crew of Club members have created a fun tradition participating in the Run of the Colors.  This year we are also being asked to help staff color stations ~ so we get to throw the chalk too!

If you do participate in the Run of the Colors, you can get a free National Night Out t-shirt.  And the chalk is washable.
