A BIG THANK YOU TO ALL WHO DONATED FOOD and/or MONEY!

Nevada City Rotary donated over 1,200 pounds of food and equivalent monetary donations during the Area 4 "Inaugural Nevada County Rotary Food Drive.

Thanks to the collective efforts of our Area 4 clubs, in just two weeks we raised $5,815 and collected more than 1,300 pounds of food to support local families facing food insecurity. 49er Rotary, raised the most food with 3,372 pounds and will receive a custom-engraved Rotary Food Drive Bell to keep until next year's challenge. Grass Valley Rotary was second with 2,168 pounds

More importantly, we enjoy the exhileration of seeing much-needed food collections come in to restock the depleted shelves at the Food Bank of Nevada County to help serve our community’s food needs through challenging times!
What to Donate (Food Bank Preferred Items) Please avoid glass containers and all homemade foods. Shelf stable donations do best when placed in bins.

Top-priority foods:
1. Canned proteins: tuna, chicken, salmon
2. Pasta, Rice, Dried beans
3. Easy-to-prepare items: soups, stews, chili, beans
4. Nuts & nut butters
5. Shelf-stable milks
6. Dried fruit
7. Canned vegetables & fruits
8. Pasta sauce
9. Kid-friendly snacks: granola bars, low-sugar cereals
10. Mac & cheese (with cheese sauce included—no butter or milk needed)

In the meantime, when you head to the store to pick up a few things for your own pantry, why not add another can or two of non-perishables and set it aside to donate? Check out those cupboards. Don't we all have a little something extra we don't need? We will have boxes at the meetings each week that you can deposit your items into, to make it convenient for you to contribute.

Let's "Unite for Good" and help families in need during these stressful times. As Coretta Scott King said, "The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members." That can also be said of our Rotary Club - our compassionate actions show the greatness of our club in our community.

Stay tuned for more information on the challenge. ~ Cathy
