Always a fun evening when the ACME Robotics Inc team comes to wow our club with their knowledge, creativity, and mastery of robotics. The team showed off this year's robot and talked about the many facets of designing, building and maintaining a fully functional competitive robot.  Creativity abounds as they describe designing and creating critical parts via a 3D printer.

Nevada County's premier award-winning high school robotics team has been successfully competing in the FIRST Tech Challenge since 2014.  Nevada City Rotary is proud to be an ongoing sponsor of the ACME Robotics team.

The ACME Robotics Inc team competes in FIRST Robotics tournaments throughout California and the West Coast. ACME team members talked about how much they value partnering with other robotics teams and strategizing solutions to robot challenges with their competitors.  Yes, winning is important but the learning process is just as valuable to them.

FIRST® (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is a robotics community that prepares young people for the future through a suite of inclusive, team-based robotics programs for ages 4-18 (PreK-12) that can be facilitated in school or in structured after school programs. Boosted by a global support system of volunteers, educators, and sponsors that include over 200 of the Fortune 500 companies, teams operate under a signature set of FIRST Core Values to conduct research, fundraise, design, build, and showcase their achievements during annual challenges.

Under strict rules and limited time and resources, teams of high school students are challenged to build industrial-size robots to play a difficult field game in alliance with other teams, while also fundraising to meet their goals, designing a team “brand,” and advancing respect and appreciation for STEM within the local community.

FIRST® Robotics Competition teams design, program, and build a robot starting with a standard kit of parts and common set of rules to play in a themed head-to-head challenge. Teams also build a brand, develop community partnerships for support, and work to promote STEM in their local community.

FIRST® inspires young people to be science and technology leaders and innovators by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs that build science, engineering, and technology skills, that inspire innovation, and that foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication, and leadership.
