Nevada City Rotary partnered with Nevada County Land Trust to build the Noel Carter Loop Trail in memory of Noel.  The beautifully wooded trail is an extension of the Orene Wetherall Trail in the Woodpecker Preserve on Banner Mountain and completes the loop section.  The trail was dedicated on May 11, 2013 and is maintained by Nevada County Land Trust (now Bear Yuba Land Trust) who owns the preserve.

Noel was a longtime member of Nevada City Rotary and served faithfully as our Club Treasurer for more than ten years. During the Nevada County Fair, Noel set aside several nights, always including Saturday night, to help staff our booth.  Because of his prominence in the community, along with his "gift of gab," he knew most of the people at the fair in those years, and many came by the booth to say hello.  Noel resigned from Rotary in 1998 upon his retirement so he could travel the West Coast and Mexico with his family.

Noel passed away after a tragic accident in December 2009.  Sometime after that, Bank of America donated $10,000 per Noel’s will to Nevada City Rotary.  It is fitting that The Noel Carter Loop Trail is dedicated in memory of a Rotarian who lived life to the fullest and always celebrated the outdoors.
