In August 2020, the Jones Fire raged through the South Yuba River Canyon up Jones Ridge devastating lands and buildings in its path. The Woolman campus was hit hard. The fire destroyed the garden buildings and the gardens. Now Woolman is looking to rebuild and replant. In celebration of Rotary's new Protecting the Environment focus, Nevada City Rotary decided to initiate an environmental project for Earth Day and Rotarians At Work Day 2021.

The Club partnered with a local farmer Malaika Bishop of BluebirdFarm to help in replanting parts of the garden, restoring fencing and repairing green houses and hoop houses. Supporting local healthy farms is critical to ensuring food security and a healthy environment for our community. In an all-hands project to celebrate Earth Day and Rotarians at Work Day, the Club was digging in the dirt together planting native pollinator plants, repairing irrigation lines, cleaning the garden and orchard in an effort to rebuild our community and help restore food sustainability.
