Welcome to our latest Rotario newsletter. Once again it is a pleasure keeping you informed of our club activities in the coming weeks.
This week's Mixer Speaker - Pat Dyer, owner of Utopian Stone
George Patrick Dyer was born in North Sacramento in 1947 . When he was a sophomore in high school his family moved to Nevada County near Chicago Park. Young Pat attended Nevada Union High school, graduated in 1965 and attended Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo. Pat got married at a young age to the love of his life, Diane, and they moved to Nevada city after college and got jobs at Grass Valley Group. It was then Pat developed an interest in jewelry design and in 1970 he landed a job with Diablo Manufacturing in Castro Valley which was a major Western silversmith operation that was soon to look relocate to Grass Valley. Pat learned the art of silver work working with the staff of 18 talented and skilled artisans from all over the globe. In 1972, after the loss of one of their young sons to cancer, Pat was recruited for the silver smithing program for the Paiute Indians of Pyramid lake Nevada. A year later they moved back to Nevada City and opened Utopian Stone. During the 1980s, Pat also became involved in local affairs, being president of the Chamber of Commerce, moving on to City Council and finally became mayor for more than one term. Utopian Stone had some up-and-down years but since 1990 the been going strong and had an extensive remodel expansion in 2007.

Volunteers wanted to assist with "winterizing " Fair Booth starting Sat. 12/3
We are planning to obtain, paint, and mount plywood panels in the cooking area of the Fair Booth to cover the screened walls and doorway. Please contact President Walt or Dave Bunje for details,

Salvation Army Bell Ringers wanted in front of SPD on Dec. 17
To accomplish this, we'll meed at least 8 volunteers for this event. If you are interested please contact President Walt via stickew446@sbcglobal.net or sign up at our next meeting.
Baja - Los Barriles Update
The dates for our work project in Los Barriles - Baja, Mexico have been firmed up. They are March 23 - 28. More details will be forthcoming.
