Rotario - December 12, 2019 [1]
Dear Rotarians and Friends,
12:15pm Lunch: Mary Ann Davis
Hospice of the Foothills: 40th Anniversary Update
Trolley Junction at Northern Queen Hotel
400 Railroad Avenue, Nevada City
What a way to start out December! PDG Dave and Gayle Denney are now the proud grandparents of Sybil Martha, a beautiful 7 lb. 9 oz. baby girl born on December 3rd. We know Gayle’s been waiting a long time to be called “Grandma GG” and Dave was floating on air as he announced it. Congratulations! That’s going to be one, very loved, little girl!
I think it might be safe to say, judging on our recent activities, that the Nevada City Rotary Club is on Santa’s “Nice” list. Last Thursday about 35 of us gathered at the Burke home for a fun, festive evening. The meal was delicious, the Burke home sparkled, the parade of holiday attire rivaled a Paris fashion show runway and there were a few games thrown in to get everyone into the holiday spirit.
A big thank you goes out to Carla Burke and Judy Soldavini for their hard work putting together this wonderful event. Thank you Walt Stickel for helping us keep those musical fruitcakes moving. In keeping with our “Service Above Self “ motto, we collected a trunk full of canned/boxed food items that Gayle Denney volunteered to take to the Food Bank as part of the Kids Can project.
Community Service Co-Chair Carolyn Inglis also collected enough money to “Adopt A Family” through the Community Beyond Violence program. With barely a day to rest in between, on Saturday Community Service Co-Chair Tom Milam had us ringing (and singing) in the rain around the Salvation Army kettle in front of SPD in Nevada City. We’re not sure who won the annual competition between Rotary clubs, but we had a lot of fun visiting with people as they scurried in and out of the store. Our bellringers were: Tom and Robin Milam (2 shifts), John and Susie Wilson, Judy Soldavini and George Roberts, Walt and Sandy Stickel, Chris Newsom and Cathy Wilcox-Barnes, Tom and Suzy Ryan, and Mike and Carolyn Inglis. It was a great way to see friends and neighbors to wish them Season’s Greetings Thank you everyone for helping our club “Connect our Community and the World” at this busy time of the year.
Los Barriles Project 2020 - January 30 - February 3
We can’t rest on our laurels (or poinsettias) yet. We still have lots of things coming up – like our Los Barilles project which is only 1-1/2 months away. This Thursday there will be a short meeting at 11:30 a.m., prior to our noon meeting, for everyone who is interested in going or thinking about going or already has made reservations to go. We have watched the East Cape Clinic grow from a small office (some of us were there to help celebrate the grand opening) to a clinic that has expanded to fill almost the entire building complex. The vision clinic portion is becoming a reality as we continue to be an active partner. If you’ve never gone on this project, I encourage you to try to join us this year. It is a very rewarding experience (and we also find time to relax and have fun with our twin club members). Thanks goes to Carolyn Feuille for putting this together again this year.
Grass Valley Free 2-day Health Clinic ~ January 11-12, 2020
Also, remember the 2020 Grass Valley Free 2-day Health Clinic [2] hosted by United Way along with California CareForce! is coming up closer to home. It is January 11th-12th at the Nevada County Fairgrounds. If you haven’t signed up to be a volunteer yet, there is still time. They need volunteers to help in several areas and you don’t have to have experience in health care. You can register to volunteer by clicking the link listed here.
