Garage to Garage for Rotary!
I joined Rotary shortly after Gayle and I moved here from Portola Valley in the Bay Area nearly 38 years ago. For all those years, we’ve been at this same address. Our recent house project necessitated moving everything out of the living/dining area. In the process of moving back in, some things made the cut, and some didn’t. Hence, items for our upcoming garage sale.
Gayle would like to do the same culling in our actual garage for the garage sale, but I can only part with a couple of things. But we’ll fill up the back of our car with contributions for Saturday’s garage sale at Dave’s Automotive. This idea of what we need is interesting. Most of the rest of the world doesn’t need as many things as we need, but they have real needs—for food, sanitation, and literacy, to name a few. And that brings us back to Rotary. Whether it is for a garage sale or for a local or international project that needs our support, Rotary is a vehicle for service and contributions.
Our co-prez and treasurer Tom has reminded the board that our treasury exists in support of our generosity, whether it is for youth scholarships or for community projects. We make money to give it away.
Segue to this week’s program about in-home care: there comes a time in most lives when what one most needs are food and water and sanitation and someone to help get there and back. The garage at that point is mostly unimportant. Maybe I can part with a couple more items that Gayle says I haven’t used in 20 years. After all, it IS for Rotary’s good cause.
