Dear Rotarians and Friends,
Thursday May 12 - Lunch 12:15pm
The Rotary Foundation - The Difference You Make!
Hybrid - In Person at Litton Engineering
200 Litton Drive, Grass Valley, CA
We can give, and we can receive ...
Because our program this week will be given by our Foundation Chair, Lynda, I’ve been thinking about what the Foundation does. It certainly provides opportunities that we’ll hear about on Thursday, but I’m also thinking about the resulting life changing experience it provided to Gayle and me many years ago when we went to Uganda with a Rotary team to help with a medical clinic. We were able to see up close and personally what Rotary’s two 3H grants (originated by NC Rotarian Don Fultz and long supported by Nancy Kemp and Wyn Spiller) were providing for the people in the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest area.
At our recent district conference on Saturday night, keynote speaker Dr. Scott Kellermann easily held Rotarians’ attention by telling the story that we all know about how he and Carol started helping the Batwa pygmies of that area. But being a great storyteller, he went on with anecdote after anecdote about how the hospital campus has continued to expand, making a point to thank Rotary for its continuing support.
Besides giving to The Rotary Foundation, the two of us had the opportunity to see how these extremely impoverished Ugandans live, with what grace the Kellermann’s have worked to gain trust, and we ourselves got to dance and drum and shoot homemade arrows and try to introduce ourselves and say hello in the local dialect. Our club members who have visited and worked in Los Barriles have had similar amazing opportunities. Because of The Rotary Foundation, we can give, and we can receive.
Nevada City Rotary Garage Sale - May 28
Now that the conference is over, it’s time to turn our focus towards our upcoming Garage Sale on Saturday May 28 at Dave’s Auto Repair. Clean out your cupboards, closets, attics, garage and storage bins with all of that stuff that you’ve been holding on to and wish you could find a good home for, to be put to good use while making a little money for your club. This is going to be a one-day event and another opportunity to get together for fun and fellowship while gaining a full measure of Rotary spirit. Dig out those “treasures” you discovered. Price each and set them aside for our Rotary Garage Sale.
Walt is planning our onsite logistics and has asked that members let him know how much space you need to display the items you have for sale. Many thanks!
