A Circle of Synchronicity ...
As I write this week’s Rotario, it is the evening of March 8, the day when International Women’s Day was celebrated.
In synchronicity with International Women’s Day, I just received a Spring Update newsletter from our new Rotary partners Amigos de Guatemala, with more on the progress of their programs in Guatemala to enable young indigenous women to continue their education through middle school and high school. Enjoy reading about student interviews, their community garden and more at Welcome Spring from Amigos de Guatemala.
To complete the cycle of synchronicity, our program this week will tell us more about the "Days For Girls”, a great program that Rotary supports to benefit young women around the world.
What is Days for Girls?
Every girl in the world deserves education, safety, and dignity. We help girls gain access to quality sustainable feminine hygiene and awareness, by direct distribution of sustainable feminine hygiene kits, by partnering with non-profit groups and organizations, by raising awareness, and by helping communities around the world start their own programs. Thanks to a global grass root network of thousands of volunteers and supporters around the world, we have reached women and girls in 100 countries on 6 continents
Ramona Delmas joined the Rotary Club of Alturas in 1991 and was a member until 1993. In 1992 her family hosted a RYE student from Chiapas, Mexico. At the time she didn’t know it, but that relationship with a young man from Chiapas would become a key part of her future Rotary journey.
In 2012, after retiring, she returned to Rotary and became an active member of the Rotary Club of Bishop Sunrise and is a Paul Harris plus 2 Fellow and Benefactor to the Rotary Foundation.
She served as her club’s 2014-2015 President, 2015-2018 was the Assistant Governor for Area 13 and is currently the District 5190 Grants Committee Chair.
Today Ramona will speak about the Days for Girls Program and how Days for Girls has become a component of the D5190 Maternal Health Global Grant projects in Chiapas, Mexico.
Good news from CDC
A top news story today was that the CDC has now released guidelines for “fully vaccinated people” that open the possibility of face-to-face gatherings of people who have had their full course of immunizations and have passed the two week point after the second shot. With these guidelines, we are moving closer to the day that we can resume gathering in person for our weekly meetings. We will continue to follow the recommendations of the Nevada County Health Department, the State of California, and RI when it comes to the resumption of face-to-face meetings.
