Staying Connected June 2 2022

Dear Rotarians and Friends,

Thursday June 2 - Social 5:30pm
Co-President's Meeting with Abbie Crimm,

Hybrid - In Person at Litton Engineering
200 Litton Drive, Grass Valley, CA

Hobnobbing over accumulated treasures for a cause!

How fortunate we are to have had the perfect weather for our garage sale this past Saturday and to have a friend to the club, Dave Robinson, who allows us to hold many of our community events at his place of business, Dave’s Auto Garage.  Fortunate also to have so many willing members in our club who made the effort to round up some of their accumulated treasures and take the time to bring them to our sale and offer them up to be passed on at a very reasonable price so that others could share in the pride of ownership of such prized possessions.  All the while having a great time hanging out, hobnobbing and socializing with fellow members and their spouses.  And in less time than it took for two fair booth shifts we cleared more profits than we did in a whole fair booth day.

Many thanks also go out to Cathy for spearheading our first fundraising event in three years and managing all of the details.  And of course, a big thank you Walt for securing the date with the aforementioned Dave R for the use of his facility as well as for being Mr. Publicity and getting posters and flyers printed and distributed plus newspaper articles and ads and radio announcements which kept a steady flow of garage sale customers inspecting and buying our wares all day long.

Before we rang the opening bell, I was a bit concerned with the volume of treasures that we were willing to pass on and just what we were going to do with what was left at the end of the day.  But as luck would have it the volume was greatly decreased by days end.  The McDonalds loaded up their pickup and took a load to their favorite thrift store and Cathy and I each loaded our pickups and made donations of the rest of our leftovers to two very grateful thrift stores in Grass Valley.  Then it was off to Walt’s once again to tally up the deposit slip and he was off to the bank with a cool $1,800.00.

Many thanks to all for your effort, dedication, fun, love and spirit that keeps us not only going, but coming back for more.  Once again, how truly fortunate we are.

Co-President Dave and I were planning our last president’s meeting to focus on gratitude for all that we have received and achieved this year and giving everyone a chance to weigh in on what’s been a highlight for you.  Because being able to adapt and adjust to a change in plans is one of the first things a club president learns to do, save those positive thoughts and highlights of the year up and share them with each other during the social time during the up-coming demotion party.  Your positive energy will make our party complete just as it has made our year.  So, I’m getting all of my gratitude out here.  Thank you, thank you, thank you.

In lieu of the planned club assembly on gratitude, come to this week’s social and hear about the wonders of acupuncture.  I am pleased to share time with anyone who is a qualified technician in the science of acupuncture.  It has transformed my life and the quality of it beyond words.  So come on down to the Litton Building at 5:30 this Thursday and we’ll all find out a little bit more.

CoP Tom (and Dave)

Demotion Here We Come!

It is time to once again pass the scepters!  We do know how to party and our Demotion Parties are always fun and filled with laughter!  It would be a great time to introduce a friend to Rotary and our Club!

Program This Week - Abbie Crimm,  Acupuncturist

Abbie Crimm, DACM, L.Ac, is a licensed acupuncturist and herbalist, certified massage therapist and health coach. She graduated with honors from Acupuncture and Integrative Medicine College in Berkeley and received her Doctorate of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine from Pacific College of Health and Science.

Aside from her work as an acupuncturist in busy clinics, Abbie has worked for over 15 years as a caregiver, massage therapist, and health coach and derives a deep sense of meaning and joy in connecting with and helping clients to reach their health goals. Her acupuncture specialties are orthopedic pain, digestive health and nutrition, women's health and fertility, immunity and autoimmune conditions, insomnia, and fibromyalgia. She is a careful listener with a gentle touch.

Abbie's interest in both the ancient wisdom traditions and the newer cutting-edge healing technologies has resulted in her offering a wide range of healing modalities such as Quantum Biofeedback for stress conditions, polychromatic light therapy and Frequency Specific Microcurrent therapy for chronic pain and many other conditions, and functional nutrition and medicine, which she feels create a well-balanced approach with much to offer. She is an eternal student, always enjoying what more there is to learn on the healing path, and excited and honored to share her skills and knowledge toward helping others on their path to healing.

Your Dues and Happy/Sad Shares make a difference!

As we prepare to start a new Rotary year, annual dues invoices will be distributed in June for payment by July 1.  Watch your electronic mailboxes for a related message from Tom as our Treasurer!

Your Happy/Sad shares give us glimpses of what is going on in your life beyond Rotary.  They are special moments together especially since so much of our time is on Zoom.  Your associated "bucks" provide a base for us to continue our special services to our community and beyond.

REMINDER - Please send in your Happy Sad/Bucks

You will not be billed for your Happy Sad/Bucks pledges.  We ask that you track your own pledges and submit your payment at the end of each month.  Here is a Happy/Sad Bucks tracking form you can download and use to track your pledges.   As always, payments go to Nevada City Rotary, PO Box 74, Nevada City, CA 95

Thanks for sharing you and for following the Four Way Test with your Happy Buck pledges to our Club!

Recycling bins around town

Grass Valley Rotary is taking the lead for the second 6th-month cycle with our Plastics Recycling. A big thanks to our Environmental Sustainability Committee who is partnering with our Area 4 Clubs.

Add your clean stretchable plastics to other bins around town - Briar Patch, B&C, the Library, ReStore, Peace Lutheran, Nevada City and Wolf Creek/Grass Valley CoHousing.  And we are adding Wild Birds Unlimited!

Read more on what can and cannot be collected at Nevada City Rotary TREX Recycling Program.
