This Week - Adventures & Wine
Wow it's this Friday!!
It is important that everyone make today's meeting for orientation and review of assignment.
We will be setting up Friday morning from 10-12 at the Foundry. Come by and help.
If you have a donation item in hand please bring it to the Foundry during that time.
If you have a donation certificate in hand it should be turned in at today's meeting.
It was good to see Captain Mike Stewart of CalFire home safe and sound at our meeting last week after leading his team in containing yet another California fire. For some of us it was the first time to see the backpack fireman carry as they trek through the forest to get to their fire. In addition to heavy safety gear, they have to carry their own food and water to last them for a couple of days.
Mike runs the Washington Ridge Camp which includes his staff and one hundred and ten prisoners as crew. He showed us updated pictures and videos of the Cedar, Panther, Bridge, American, Allegheny and Soda Fires. All were very beautiful pictures of sad situations. In addition, Mike shared that he does what he does because he enjoys his work and has a sense of accomplishment that benefits us all.
You and your fellow firefighters are sincerely appreciated, Mike. Please share our appreciation to your staff and crew at your next opportunity.
We Had Guests and ...
In addition to Mike we were honored to have Bob and Carol Lanhard, both past presidents of The Rotary Club of South Yuba, Marysville, visiting. The Lanhards have since moved to our area and are members of the Grass Valley club. Other guests included Luuk van den Berg, husband of Laura, who, by the way, didn't make the card match although she did win the raffle. Carolyn Feuille was a third time guest of pP Bob Buhlis. Carolyn is a consultant and a professional development career coach.
Because of the heavy involvement in the Nevada County Fair by our membership last month, our attendance for August was an astronomical 85%! This was in part because those who worked more than one shift got make-up credit if needed. Attendance has been up at meetings the last couple of months. Let's keep those numbers up by attending as many meetings as possible and taking advantage of make up opportunities. Some of these opportunities are visiting another's club, attending a board or committee meeting, or by going on-line (District 5190.org). Working the auction tomorrow night can also be counted as a make up. Let pP Ellen Davis know about make-ups when you sign in for lunch on a regular meeting date. Note that make ups can only be credited two weeks before or two weeks after a missed meeting.
