Rotario - October 27, 2016

Dear Rotarians and Friends,

Welcome to our latest Rotario newsletter. Once again it is a pleasure keeping you informed of our club activities in the coming weeks.

This Week's Meeting - Shannon Cueva, Director of Shady Creek Nature Center

Shannon has been with the Outdoor School since she was hired as an Intern Naturalist in 2006. Originally from Oroville, California, Shannon first fell in love with environmental education when she attended Woodleaf as a sixth grader. Shannon attended CSU, Chico where she earned a degree in Recreation Administration. She appreciates having a job where she can work with an outstanding staff, and meet amazing children from all over Northern California. Shannon loves spending time with her husband, Yeti, and dog, Boomer. She also enjoys playing bass with her family’s rock-n-roll band, The Little Twins.

Last Week's Evening "Mixer" Meeting - Membership Appreciation Night

This past week our club members shared some of their fond memories of their activities within the club. And we were especially pleased to see David Fluke ( Rule of 85) attend our meeting, since we don't see him often enough. We also engaged in a fun trivia contest which included questions about the history of Rotary, as well as general information. Two answers that most of the club members remembered were to the questions, "where did the name Rotary evolve? (rotating meeting locations) And in what year were women first admitted to join Rotary clubs (1989). Lastly, but most important we re-inducted Stacy Drake to our club after a two-year absence. We are so glad to have her back!   Pictured is Stacy, with President Walt on the left and her sponsor, Nicole Dillard on the right.

Baja - Los Barriles Update

The dates for our work party in Mexico have been firmed up.  They are March 23 - 28.      More details will be forthcoming.

Pres. Walt represented our club in the third annual NEO Trail Run Challenge on Oct. 22

This run was a fund-raiser for NEO (New Events & Opportunities), an organization that sponsors after-school activities for kids 12-18 who might otherwise be unsupervised.  While Walt ran the 4 mile trail run, his wife Sandy completed the two-mile walk in the woods at Empire Mine. Walt did finish third in his age group, and was glad that they did not have to send out a search party to find him. LOL  Pictured are Walt & Sandy during pre-reace activities.
