Quote of the Week I am an artist... I am here to live out loud. Emile Zola
Last Week If you missed last week's meeting, you missed an enjoyable field trip to the North Star House. pP Nancy Kemp led our patio box lunch meeting and introduced North Star Executive Director Peggy Levine and Rotarian John Taylor who shared the history and vision of this historic home.
Also known as the Foote Mansion, this magnificent home was designed in 1905 by Julia Morgan and is in major renovation after years of neglect and vandalism. Recent work has included a new roof, restoration of the public rooms and the addition of appropriate period furniture, yet there is much to do as resources become available.
The dedicated volunteers are to be commended for their love of labor in this worthwhile restoration project. Julia would be proud!
Celebrate Portugal - Save the Date On Thursday evening, June 20, we will "Celebrate Portugal" where the 2013 RI convention is being held. In place of our regular luncheon, we will meet at The Old 5 Mile House for dinner at 6 pm for cocktails with dinner served at 7 pm and we can imagine we are all in Lisbon.
Our Portuguese dinner choices ($18, including tax and tip) are: 1) Costolettos de Porco - Sautéed Boneless center cut pork chop with lemon, garlic and herbs over mashed potatoes w/ small salad 2) Grilled Chicken Piri Piri over Caesar Salad - Boneless chicken breast marinated with portuguese piri piri peppers, grilled and served over our house made Caesar 3) Spinach Empanada - Organic spinach, herbs and cheese baked in a puff pastry crust with a small salad.
Rolls and dessert will be provided. Beverages are additional.
Our event will be held with decorated tables on the lawn near the bocci ball court (the court will be available to us). The circulation of the reservation list will begin this week; the deadline for reservations is at our luncheon meeting on Thursday, June 10.
This is our second annual RI convention special gathering. Last year we celebrated Thailand by lunching at Sopa Thai. What a great way to spend a fun time with Rotary friends, family and guests while we learn a little something about the customs and food of another country!
Walt Stickel is retiring this Friday! You will want to update your contact information for him. Hey Walt, whacha gonna be doing now?
