This Week - Hospitality House, Nancy Baglietto
Hospitality House is committed to ending homelessness by providing intensive case management services to all its guests. The year-round shelter is a safe haven; those seeking shelter at Hospitality House are offered three meals, along with laundry and shower facilities. Hospitality House brings homeless people in Nevada County into a circle of community caring that offers shelter, sustenance, medical care, advocacy, opportunity, dignity, and hope while assisting them in transitioning from homelessness to housing.
Nancy Baglietto, Executive Director will share the expanding vision and updates to services provided through Hospitality House. Nancy Baglietto assumed leadership as executive director for Hospitality House in March 2017. She had previous executive experience for agencies focusing on homeless people, homeless animals and the parks they use.
Club Action - Bylaws Review
At this week's lunch meeting, please come prepared to approval our Club Bylaws as reported the last several weeks. The nominal proposed changes reflect current Club practices including our varied meeting schedules and RI Council of Legislation changes. The base of these Bylaws were prepared by attorney Michael Colantuono during his tenure. If you have questions, please contact Secretary Robin or President Tom in advance of the meeting.
At our Board Meeting of May 27, 2019 the Board approved updated Club Bylaws pending review and approval by the Club. The bylaws are available for your review at Rotary Club of Nevada City Bylaws - Pending Approval.
Current Bylaws may be viewed at Rotary Club of Nevada City - Current Bylaws. The Board is proposing the Club approve the Bylaws at next week's lunch meeting Thursday on June 13. If you have questions, please address them to either Robin Milam, Secretary, or Tom Ryan, President.
Next Week - Tom's Demotion Party 5:30pm at the Burke's Home
Where does a year go! We have been hammering away through another wonderful Rotary year. Next week our evening social moves to the home of Carla and John Burke where we will celebrate this year under President Tom's leadership. A fun evening is planned. Please confirm your participation with Carla or our Party Chair Judy Soldavino ASAP.
Maria's Mexican restaurant will serve a fiesta dinner. $25/person. Party starts at 5:30pm at 11600 Red Dog Rd, Nevada City. As with last year's events, parking is available in the lot on the right side of the Red Dog before you get to John and Carla's home if you are coming from Nevada City.
You are Invited! North Star House Garden
June 23 1:30pm
The Area 4 Rotary Clubs will celebrate the Grand Opening of the North Star House Heritage Garden Sunday June 23 at 1:30pm in the Heritage Garden at the North Star House.
If you have not been to the site, the Heritage Garden is located between the upper parking lot and the North Star House. When you enter the gates to the North Star House at 12075 Auburn Rd, Grass Valley follow the drive around to the left until you circle around to the top of the property and the parking lot. Auburn Road starts at McCourtney Rd in front of the Fairgrounds by the new CHP offices.
Last Week ~ Seven Hills Nature Bridge Participants
Last week we were treated to have Seven Hills Skylah and Mason share their experiences at Nature Bridge Science Camp. Sixth grade teacher and Nature Bridge leader Hillary O'Callaghan shared a slide show of the week and the students shared their stories. They were among the students we sponsored for the week long camp. They loved cleaning a huge plastic tube from the beach and seeing sparkling planktons in the water on a night hike. Would they want to go again? got a big smiles and a clear yes!
Rotary Ramblers
Each Tuesday morning at 8:00am Cathy leads a group of Rotary Ramblers on easy hikes around our community. Destinations change each week so check with Cathy if you want to ramble along with the group.
Children's Festival - July 19
This year's Children’s Festival, which is scheduled for Friday, July 19, at Pioneer Park in Nevada City. Nevada City Rotary has been involved with planning and hosting crafts -- especially Nancy Kemp, Gayle Denney and Sandy Stickel for many years. The planning team is now in the process of organizing all the volunteers it takes to make the festival a reality!
The Festival has two sessions. The morning session runs from 9 a.m. to noon. We then take a break (during the heat of the day) and come back for an evening session from 5-8 p.m. We will have about 25 crafts tables at each session, and each table needs 3-5 volunteers to help the kids create their works of art. We also have a number of activities that are especially well suited for teens who want to volunteer (and we provide documentation of community service).
Please get in touch with Robin (as Sandy and Walt are traveling in July) and Gayle if you would like to work the Solar Sunprint or Renaissance Rubbings craft tables. Or get in touch with Nancy if you would like to volunteer for other crafts.
