Rotario - July 19, 2016

Dear Rotarians and Friends,

Welcome to my latest Rotario newsletter. Once again it is a pleasure keeping you informed of our club activities in the coming weeks.Cheryl Wicks - Sammie's Friends

This week July 21 Third Thursday Social - Cheryl Wicks, Sammie's Friends will be addressing our club at the 2nd monthly mixer about her amazing work with  abandoned dogs & cats while finding new "owners" for them.

Last week Trent Pridemore, Outreach Ambassador  & Bill Haire,  Trails Coordinator of  Bear Yuba Land Trust.  Trent was able to enlighten us as to the history of the Land Trust and some of its current projects.  Bill was also able to tell is about the plethora of local hiking/biking trails in and around Nevada City

On Friday the Children's Festival took over Pioneer Park. Thanks to Nancy Kemp, Sandy Stickel, Gayle Denney, Judy Soldavini, Carolyn Inglis, Dave Bunje and Robin Milam, who were volunteers at this amazing "children's renaissance fair" which broke attendance records for this one-day event.  There were over 2200 attendees, half of whom were under the age of ten.  Despite the hot weather in the morning session, enthusiasm ran high for both vlounteers and attendees.

Kids Who Code

Also happening this week July 18-22 is a one week Kids Who Code Intensive program that one of our Girls Who Code graduates is teaching at Britney College Prep. Incoming Nevada Union Freshman Thea Pelayo came forward as the GWC program was ending this Spring to say she wanted to teach a summer program.  Dave Bunje, Cindy Zuelsdorf, and the Bitney College Prep team came together to make it happen.  Dave, Carolyn Inglis, and Robin Milam have been providing lunch for the students.  The students are diving in learning to code Apps for Android devices.  Watch for more in the Union!

The schedule of meetings and events coming up in the near future are listed below.
