Happy Thanksgiving 2021 to you and yours!

Dear Rotarians and Friends,

Thursday November 25 ~ Happy Thanksgiving!

Whenever we are dark for a week and don’t have a regularly scheduled meeting, I always lose track of the days of the week.  It happened again this week, but Thanksgiving is a perfect reason to take a day for reflection and gathering with friends and family and truly give thanks for all that we have and all that we can provide.

Thanksgiving is one of those marker days that I can remember celebrating going back to age three.  Regardless of how many were at the dinner, a few times it was two and a few times it was fifty and everything in between, it always puts me in a place of feeling the spirit of community, love, sharing, giving and the hope that this feeling can go on and on and on.  Now that my family is scattered across the country and the globe, I find that it is my Rotary family that keeps that spirit going and is an important reason why I am still optimistic that it can go on and on as long as we meet, gather, share and provide.

We have had a great run of providing this year with scholarships, food, community service with the health department, planting, recycling, recognizing those in the community who do so much and now preparing to provide clean water filters to families in need in Baja, Mexico.  As we approach the half way point of our Rotary year we can look back at our contributions with a spirit of gratitude for what we have been able to give.

Both Co-President Dave and myself are truly thankful for your support and energy for such a successful first half. And we have every confidence that together we will achieve even more in our second half as new leadership comes together to take us into the future.  Speaking of leadership and the future we need to pause here and celebrate the Rotary heart and spirit of our own Dennis Geare with the following  legal announcement…

Congratulations Dennis Geare - DGND!

The District Nominating Committee met on Saturday November 20th and made their selection for the District Governor for 2024-2025.

The Committee selected Dennis Geare (Rotary ID: 8130787) of the Rotary Club of Nevada City, club # 536, as the District Governor Nominee Designate (DGND).

Pursuant to Article 12.030.7 of the Rotary International Bylaws, the challenge period for this selection shall be for 14 days and officially end on December 4, 2021.

In the works:

Reforesting Woolman Center - Sunday afternoon December 5

Woolman Center is intending to plant 4,000 small Douglas Fir, Ponderosa Pine, Giant Sequoia seedlings in a patchwork of small groves to reforest areas burned by the Jones Fire. Please contact Chris if you want to participate on the afternoon of Sunday December 5.

Penzance Bulbs ~ Monday, December 6 from 10am - 1pm

'Tis the season for bulb planting in Penzance Park!  Always a fun time together digging in the dirt anticipating the blooms to follow.

Pediatric COVID Clinic with Nevada County Health Services - Second Round December 7

Kim Blix from Nevada County Public Health would love our help again during the second pediatric Covid clinic at the Veteran's Memorial Building on Tuesday December 7th from noon till 5:30 or 6. They are exploring shifting a little earlier for opening to the public, but otherwise it will be the same format.

Several have already volunteered with Susie, so we need 3 more volunteers to support this very important clinic. Since check in and orientation take place around 12:30, we will need volunteers who can be there at the start of event. Please let Susie know if you'd like to be included.

Los Barriles, Mexico awaits us again for the Healthy Water Project

Our work project with our partner club, the Los Barriles Cabo de Este Rotary Club, will take place from Feb. 17-19, with travel & recreation days before and after. What’s new this year is to devote our time, energy and learning to two projects:  The Healthy Water Project and health screening for school kids.

For more details and the District registration form, visit D5190 2022 Clean Water Project under International in the left sidebar. Please contact Carolyn Feuille with your questions:  cfeuille@gmail.com and phone 650-867-4564.
