Happy New Year 2021!!

Dear Rotarians and Friends,

Wishing you and your loved ones...

As we bring this year to a close, I want to take a moment to reflect on the good we have shared this year ...

Highlights of 2020

In the face of a global pandemic that brought much of the world to a stop, our Club rose up and found ways to stay active and engaged in supporting our community:

  • Mask Give-Aways - two accomplished and one postponed due to COVID-19 restrictions
  • Mask Give-Away and Support of Nevada County Health Department Flu Shot Drive-Through Clinic
  • "End Polio Now” Information Table during Nevada City Farmer’s Market on World Polio Day
  • Excellent response to the new PolioPlus Society with more sign-ups that almost all of the other clubs in District 5190
  • A wide variety of engaging and informative programs each week
  • Enthusiastic support for and attendance at our weekly Zoom virtual club meetings
  • A fun and rewarding first ever Virtual Holiday Party

On an International level, Rotary's campaign to End Polio achieved special global recognition in 2020.  CNN issued a Christmas Day Edition, opening with acknowledgement of Eradition of wild polio from Africa in August as a "great day" and Time Magazine's recognition of Dr Tunji Funsho, chair of Rotary International's polio-eradication program in Nigeria, among Time's 100 Most Influential People of 2020.

During Foundation Month in November, we learned from PRIP/Polio Plus Chair John Germ and PDG Bob Rogers how Rotary is assisting global COVID testing efforts based on the extensive logistics lessons our Rotary partners have learned in testing community sewage and water systems for the presence of polio and the distribution of volatile vaccines.

We can look forward to sustaining our momentum as we start a new year with 2021 ahead of us.  The pandemic conditions will ease, restrictions will be lifted, and we will be able to start meeting face-to-face once again.

When that time comes, we will have the opportunity to look back at the new ways we found to get things done and chart our future course of action using the best combination of old ways and new ways.

Virtual International Project Fairs - in 2021

In January and February of the new year, we have the unique opportunity of participating in virtual Project Fairs.  The fairs are on Zoom and open to all Rotarians, at no cost.  This arrangement is ideal for learning how project fairs work without leaving the comfort of your home and with no travel expenses.  So, take advantage!

Rotary Mid-Years Dues are Due

We are rapidly approaching mid-point in our Rotary year!  For those of you who chose to pay dues in two increments, your balance of $85.50 ($171 / 2) is due before January 1, 2021.  You should have an invoice from Treasurer Tom; please pay promptly.

Your Happy/Sad Shares make a difference!

Thank you Treasurer Tom Ryan for your ongoing diligence with our finances.  And thank you Club members for following the Four Way Test with your pledges to our Club!  If you have questions, Tom R is happy to discuss your statement with you.

Your Happy/Sad shares give us glimpses of what is going on in your life beyond Rotary.  They are special moments together especially since so much of our time is on Zoom.  Your associated "bucks" provide a base for us to continue our special services to our community and beyond.  Thanks for sharing you!

Stay connected and informed

Robin monitors our news@ncrotary.org email. You can direct questions to that email or to me.  As we learn more and to stay in touch, we will send out regular or more frequent Rotarios.
