Dear Rotarians and Friends,
Thursday June 24, 2021 -
Prez Tom's Demotion Celebration
at Chris and Bill Newsom's Home
5:30pm
This week's meeting is at Chris and Bill Newsom's home ... they say there's going to be a Demotion Celebration!
The time has come for changes.
This is my last Rotario as Club President for the 2020-2021 Rotary year. It has been an honor working in service to our Club through a year of many opportunities. Tom Ryan and Dave Denney are ready to go to take over the Club leadership role. Let’s all move forward into the 2021-2022 Rotary year with the intent of having lots of fun as we serve our local community, Rotary, and the global community.
A more lasting change is our leaving our Nevada County Fair Treat Street booth. Now that the difficult decision has been made to relinquish the booth, we are working to clean out our personal belongings and Club mementos as we prepare the booth for the next occupants.
Did you know, this was not our first booth on Treat Street? Cathy shared a historical tidbit "The first booth was across the street and a tree fell through it." The menu included Pepper Bellies with Chili. The Club built the one most of us know in 1984.
Thanks to the crew that came out this morning to help with this task. Shown here are Cathy, Walt, Tom and Tom retrieving early photos of the booth; not shown are Nicole and Robin.
Ramona Howard of Nevada County Media gave a great presentation last week, and mention was made of the fact that NCM was holding an Open House on Saturday June 19 to celebrate their post-COVID reopening. Robin and I stopped by to say Hi and to see the new Video Technology Museum space that is taking shape. As we were taking our tour, Robin noted that they are looking to have some light construction projects done to help finish the overall facility construction. Robin quickly decided that Tom Ryan and I were the perfect people to help with trimming a set of doors. So after we left the Treat Street booth on Monday, Tom and I went to Nevada County Media to offer our services in getting the doors fit and closing as desired. Mission accomplished!
Food Bank of Nevada County - Fresh Produce Project
As we close the year, we also wrap up a special project with the Food Bank. Several fresh produce deliveries have been made through our District grant. Additional deliveries are planned for this week. Cathy, Nancy, Carolyn, Robin and Tom packed boxes for home delivery and then Nancy, Lynda, John and Susie packed lunches for students on summer break. The lunches are distributed through our local libraries as well as to apartment complexes and other designated locations throughout the summer. We will close the grant by June 30 in accordance with the District grant guidelines.
A big thank you to Susie Monary Wilson for coordinating each phase of our Food Bank project throughout the year and to all who participated in our food collection drive and each of our packaging work days.
Your Happy/Sad Shares make a difference!
Many, many thanks to Treasurer Tom Ryan for your ongoing diligence with our finances throughout the year. Congratulations and thank you for finally solving that stubborn email blip so that invoices can now go out in a single stroke (including our annual dues this week!) and for setting up our new computer to turn over to incoming Treasurer John Wilson. Great job, we appreciate all your efforts tracking Happy Bucks throughout the year!
And thank you Club members for following the Four Way Test with your Happy Buck and dues pledges to our Club! If you have questions about your dues invoices, Tom R is happy to discuss your statement with you.
Your Happy/Sad shares give us glimpses of what is going on in your life beyond Rotary. They are special moments together especially since so much of our time is on Zoom. Your associated "bucks" provide a base for us to continue our special services to our community and beyond. Thanks for sharing you!
Stay connected and informed
Robin monitors our news@ncrotary.org email. You can direct questions to that email or to your Club President(s).
Signing off and passing this quill to Tom and Dave!
