This week our Club Social moves to Mount Saint Mary’s Academy for a tour hosted by our Co-PE and teacher extradinaire Karen McDonald and REGL students. We will meet on the front steps of Mt Saint Mary’s at 5:30pm … Please be prompt so we can start our tour together!
Mt Saint Mary’s is at 400 Church Street, across from St Patrick Catholic Church in Grass Valley. They share the parking lot with St Joseph’s Cultural Center at the end of Church Street.
Founded in 1859 by the Sisters of Mercy, Mt. St. Mary has the distinction of being the oldest continuously operating Catholic school west of the Mississippi. Mount Saint Mary's Convent and Academy, originally the Sacred Heart Convent and Holy Angels Orphanage, was the first orphanage to serve the Northern mines, it housed homeless children from 1866 to 1932, becoming an academy in 1868, and served as a convent as well until 1968.
