Learn about the services and programs provided at Chapa-De Indian Health and how the organization’s work supports the wellbeing of underserved community members.

Aimee Sagan, MPA-HA is the Marketing and Communications Manager at Chapa-De Indian Health. She has served the organization in various roles for over 11 years. In her role as Marketing and Communications manager, Aimee works to ensure American Indian and low-income community members are aware of Chapa-De’s services and works to establish collaborative partnerships in the community to fulfill Chapa-De’s mission to improve the wellbeing of those they serve.

Chapa-De Indian Health

Today Chapa-De operates two private, non-profit community health centers and is governed by an American Indian Board of Directors. The Board of Directors includes members of the United Auburn Indian Community, which is Chapa-De’s supporting Tribe.  Under UAIC’s authority, Chapa-De contracts with Indian Health Services (IHS) to provide no-cost or low-cost services and medications to verified American Indians and Alaska Natives from federally recognized and California tribes. We also welcome low-income individuals and families.

Our health centers offer adult and pediatric primary medical care, nutrition and health education, prenatal care, dental care, orthodontia, mental health counseling, psychiatry, optometry, and pharmacy services.

Chapa-De serves over 20,000 active patients and continue to expand our services based on the needs of our communities. We recently renovated our Auburn and Grass Valley campuses to help meet the rising demand for local healthcare providers who accept Medi-Cal patients. Chapa-De is committed to providing quality, integrated and patient-centered care to all people regardless of their financial situation or ethnicity.

Bright Futures for Youth

Our tour will begin on the 3rd Floor near the elevator at 5:30pm on Thirsday. We will plan to gather at 5:20 at the bottom of the front stairs for those not familiar with Bright Futures and the Litton Blding.

Judy East is Chair of the Nevada County Council of Sierra College Foundation.

Judy East started her educational career in Watts as a junior high school teacher and then became a high school counselor at Manual Arts HS near USC.  After the birth of her son, she moved to Grass Valley where she opened up a Marriage Family Practice until in 1983, she became the Counselor/Administrator of Lyman Gilmore.  A long time member of Soroptimist International of Grass Valley, Judy has devoted her career to helping women in children.  She has served on the NC Mental Advisory Board, the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Commission and was the founding member of the Foothill Youth foundation, which created the first Teen center She currently is a SIGV member and the chair of the Nevada County Council of Sierra College Foundation where she continues her promotion of education and a better life for kids.  She is happily married to Monty East, who shares her passion for improving our community.

Amber Jo joined The Center for the Arts in Fall 2016, returning to Nevada County after 17 years in arts development. She previously served as Director of Development at the American Conservatory Theater, leading a $33 million campaign for The Strand Theater. Amber has also worked at the California Academy of Sciences, Berkeley Rep, and The Roundabout Theater in New York. A former dancer, actress, and director, she holds a B.A. in Drama from UC Irvine and an M.F.A. in Directing Asian Theater from the University of Hawaii.

Mackenzie Rist is a Senior and Student Body President at Nevada Union High School, as well as founder and 2 term Chair of the Nevada County Youth Commission.

Jeff Dellis is Career Technical Education/Youth Leadership Development Project Coordinator for Nevada County Youth Commission (NCYC).

Jeff is a long time Nevada Union High Schoolteacher/coach/athletic director. He helped create and coordinates NCYC., finds and helps place local Career Technical Education students into internships and supports Nevada County’s Citizen’s Academy.

The Nevada County Youth Commission is a group of Nevada County Youth that either reside within Nevada County and/or students enrolled in a Nevada County school system, ages 14 to 19. Our mission statement is to identify, connect, and advocate for the issues facing Nevada County Youth The purpose of the NCYC is to serve as a bridge between the youth and the Board of Supervisors, while advocating for Nevada County youth and providing recommendations to the Board of Supervisors to facilitate positive change

Leslie Lovejoy worked in the healthcare field for 51 years before retiring in 2020. She relocated to Nevada County in 2019 just before the pandemic and decided to use her skills by joining the Board at Gold Country Senior Services and finally by taking on the role of Executive Director. Her focus has with the team to make a senior center a reality. She is a retired Registered Nurse with a Masters in Clinical Psychology and a Ph.D. in Social Psychology.

Four community members from Nevada County Pride’s Speakers Bureau will share their insights about Breaking Down the Barriers in the LGBTQ+ and multi-cultural community and their collective/individual focus on fostering a more vibrant welcoming community, including how to be an ally. 

Our beautiful Nevada County is home to a diverse community of LGBTQ+ members. From Alta Sierra to Truckee, we represent 5 to 7% of our county of 100,000 people. We range in age from youth to senior citizens. We are parents, children, siblings, and friends. To many of you, our community is mostly invisible. But no doubt you have met us - in organizations you are involved in, restaurants or coffee shops, schools, stores you shop at, and other places. Some of you may have never had an opportunity to get to know our community better. We can assist you in doing that.
