Dear Rotarians and Friends,
Happy Thanksgiving to all! We are dark this week, and I hope all of you are able to enjoy a safe Thanksgiving celebration. In this season, I am thankful for so many things, with a special thankfulness for the great club and club members we have in our Nevada City Rotary Club.
Way to Go Nevada City!
Last Friday, the clubs of Areas 8 and 9 in the Reno/Sparks part of District 5190 held their Virtual Foundation Celebration. It was a great opportunity to meet and talk with fellow Rotarians, and the highlight of the evening was the presentation given by Past Rotary International President and Current Polio Plus Chair John Germ. John spoke of the history of Rotary’s involvement in the movement to eradicate Polio, with an emphasis on the amount of money Rotary has raised over the years and how it has been used to help the children of the world live free from the scourge of Polio.
One of the evening’s events was an update on the District’s new PolioPlus Society. During the update, we learned that our Nevada City Rotary has as many or more PolioPlus Society members as any of the other clubs in the District! Our District 5190 Polio Plus Chair Dave Bianchi congratulated me and the members of our club who have pledged support to PolioPlus until Polio is finally eliminated from the world.
Holiday Celebration - December 10 at 5:30pm
Coming soon is our club Holiday Event on December 10. This will be a 5:30pm Zoom get-together like NONE OTHER! Our Club Services/party team is having fun coming up with creative ideas for our Holiday Celebration.
More Masks! December 12 10am
With the increase on COVID-19 cases in Nevada County, California, and the entire USA, we see the ongoing need to get face masks to members of our community who need them. On Saturday, December 12, we will hold another drive-through mask give-away at Dave Robinson’s auto repair shop on Zion Street, next door to SPD. As with past mask give-aways, we are planning to open from 10:00 AM to Noon, or until all masks have been given away if demand is as high as it has been. Thanks once again to Susie, Carolyn Inglis, Nevada County Mask Warriors, and all the others who are working to make this give-away possible.
Thanksgiving Day 2020
We'll be trotting around our neighborhood this year with the Turkey Trot and expect others will too!
Hungry Games Team Meeting on Zoom
Tuesday December 1 11:00am
So many questions ... and some decisions need to be made soon. With the uptick in the number of COVID-19 cases and the tightening of restrictions as a result, we don't see our original plans for Valentines Day taking place.
Michael Young, Fundraising Chair, is calling a meeting for December 1, 11:00am via Zoom. Watch for email with the same link as our weekly meetings. Contact Michael or Robin if you need the link.
Your Happy/Sad Shares make a difference!
Thank you Treasurer Tom Ryan for your ongoing diligence with our finances. And thank you Club members for following the Four Way Test with your pledges to our Club! If you have questions, Tom R is happy to discuss your statement with you.
Your Happy/Sad shares give us glimpses of what is going on in your life beyond Rotary. They are special moments together especially since so much of our time is on Zoom. Your associated "bucks" provide a base for us to continue our special services to our community and beyond. Thanks for sharing you!
Stay connected and informed
Robin monitors our news@ncrotary.org email. You can direct questions to that email or to me. As we learn more and to stay in touch, we will send out regular or more frequent Rotarios.
