Time to Vote! Gregory Diaz and Natalie Adona
Nevada County Clerk-Recorder and Registrar of Voters
Election Day, November 3rd, is two weeks away. I expect that some of our club members have already returned their ballots, and I strongly encourage everybody to get their ballots in for this election!
To help us understand more about the election in our community, we are pleased to have Gregory Diaz and Natalie Adona join us this week to present a program on the election process in Nevada County.
Gregory J. Diaz is Nevada County Clerk-Recorder/Registrar of Voters. He became a Nevada County property owner in 1996 and has been a full-time resident of Nevada County since 2003. Prior to serving Nevada County Clerk-Recorder, Mr. Diaz served as the County Clerk-Recorder for the City and County of San Francisco managing the office and defining departmental policies, procedures, budget, operations and legislation on both the local and state level. Mr. Diaz also served as the Assistant County Clerk-Recorder in San Francisco for four years and he worked in the City Attorney's office for six years drafting legislation and litigation documents. He holds a BA from Swarthmore College and attended Rutgers University School of Law.
Mr. Diaz says, "Outside of Police and Fire, the most important service government can provide to its citizens is its role as the Custodian of Vital and Official Records and ensuring the integrity of Elections."
Natalie Adona, Assistant Registrar of Voters
Natalie Adona is the Assistant Clerk-Recorder/Registrar of Voters for Nevada County, a position that she has held since October 2019. Prior to joining the Clerk-Recorder’s office, she was the Senior Research and Learning Associate for the Elections Program at Democracy Fund, a private philanthropy based in Washington, DC. Natalie’s professional interests over the last 15 years center on elections and voting, including public opinion surveys on the topic. She is the co-author of “Understanding the Voter Experience” and the co-author/Principal Investigator of “Stewards of Democracy.” A Vallejo native, Natalie is happy to return to California to serve our state’s electorate.
Natalie holds a B.A. from the University of California at Berkeley, a J.D. from the American University Washington College of Law and a M.P.A. from AU’s School of Public Affairs.

World Polio Day 2020 ~ Saturday October 24 10am-1pm
Join Club members in downtown Nevada City outside Firehouse #1 Museum (bottom of Commercial St) to celebrate World Polio Day Saturday October 24 from 10am-1pm!
Each year, our Nevada City Rotary Club has observed World Polio Day with an activity such as a Polio Walk to raise public awareness that Polio is still active in a few parts of the world and that Rotary continues the campaign to eliminate Polio once and for all.
This year, we plan to setup an information table at the Firehouse #1 Museum - thanks to Cathy. We will collect pennies (or dimes, dollars and more) in boots and jugs from 10am - 1pm at our table or meandering through the Saturday NC Farmers Market. A good day for Rotary shirts especially EndPolio if you have one. Please wear your masks and plan to be very conscious of social distancing! It will be a fun and meaningful way of regrouping.
As PDG Doug announced at our Thursday Social, Rotary has announced its PolioPlus Society. Rotary’s Number One Priority is eradicating polio. Carolyn Feuille shared the on the ground mobilizing challenges, especially in these times, in an important article from the Economist on fighting polio in Afganistan and Pakistan. Dennis shared an inspiring video reminding us that our PolioPlus focus is all about the children.
PolioPlus Society members will help Rotary make history by contributing a minimum of $100 per year until the World Health Organization certifies that polio has been fully eradicated because …
Until the world is polio-free, every child is at risk.
A lot of Nevada City Rotary hands went up on Thursday to take the $100/year minimum pledge to join the PolioPlus Society. You too can participate in the Countdown to History as a member of the PolioPlus Society of District 5190.
To make your pledge, please click here or the PolioPlus Society icon to download the PolioPlus Commitment Letter. Follow the very simple instructions on the form to submit your pledge to PDG Dave Bianchi and make your donation each year through Rotary Direct, or our Club.
Society members will receive a PolioPlus Society membership pin, certificate and an End Polio Now wristband…and your contribution qualifies for Paul Harris Recognition Points credit.
