Dear Rotarians and Friends,

Changing Seasons
How was that for a fast change in the weather? Last week we saw temperatures as high as 80 degrees and last night the low temperature at our house was 26 degrees! Let’s hope that the bit of rain we had this weekend, along with the more significant amount of rain forecast for next weekend, puts an end to the threat of wildfire for the season.
The Holiday Season is just around the corner. This season promises to be much different from anything in the past, with the necessary restrictions on social gatherings putting a stop to holiday parties and many family gatherings. While our Club Services Committee is actively looking at how we can celebrate the holidays together, it is not likely that we will have an in-person event. We will get creative on Zoom for December 10 at 5:30pm.
Looking back on the recently completed Rotary year, our Past District Governor Randy Van Tassell has sent out a message of Celebration for the Rotary year 2019-2020. Nevada City was recognized with a Silver 2019-2020 Presidential Citation. "From the Back of the Bike, I applaud all of you!" PDG Randy
For this week’s program, we welcome fellow Rotarian and PDG Bob Rogers.
PDG 5130 Bob Rogers ~ A Personal Polio Challenge
Bob joined the Rotary Club of Sebastopol, California in 2007 shortly after moving into town. It wasn’t long thereafter, as a polio survivor, he joined the District 5130’s PolioPlus Committee and was soon giving polio talks to clubs in the district.
Bob served as District Governor in 2017-2018, alongside his classmate, PDG Doug McDonald.
While DG, he and 13 other bike riders created a 6 day, 350 mile bike ride called “Pedal 4 Polio”, and raised $140,000 in the process. Rotary clubs along the route supported the riders with potluck dinners and beds, and in the process, cultivated many new long term friendships in the district (and like good dinner guests, the riders did supply the beer and wine!).
Bob’s Rotary travels have taken him on multiple visits to Mexico, to Uganda for a Global Grant project, to India for a Rotary Friendship Exchange and last January, to India again, this time for a National Immunization Day in New Delhi.
In 2020-21 Bob is serving as Chair of District 5130’s PolioPlus Committee and as the End Polio Now Zone Coordinator for Zone 27. Bob is a member of the Paul Harris Society and with his wife Peggy are major donors and members of the Bequest Society. Bob retired as an airline pilot from USAirways in 2002...and now claims his second career is Rotary.
Foundation Month - Friday November 20, 2020
Area 8 & 9 Virtual Foundation Celebration with PRIP and Polio Plus Chair John Germ
November is Rotary Foundation Month. In years past we have celebrated Rotarians from Area 4 Clubs who have achieved new levels of recognition for giving to The Rotary Foundation. Due to the restrictions of the COVID-19 pandemic, our Area 4 will not have a celebration this November. The 49er Breakfast Club is responsible for the Foundation Recognition Awards this year. They are working with our Club on plans to combine the Foundation Recognition and the Community Awards event for early Spring. More information will be provided as details are worked out.
In the meantime, you can still celebrate November Foundation Month by joining the Virtual Foundation Celebration hosted by Areas 8 & 9. PRIP John Germ will be guest speaker. Click icon to Register and donate $25 to PolioPlus. Participate in the Area 8 & 9 Virtual event and Nevada City Rotary will extend you a $15 Happy/Sad Buck credit!
Thanksgiving Day 2020
Mike Bratton shared plans for the 2020 MEB II Turkey Trot. A great family and community event! Click REGISTER! or the banner above for more details.

October invoices and/or statements are in your email! Please follow the Four Way Test with your pledges to our Club! If you have questions, Tom R is happy to discuss your statement with you.
Your Happy/Sad shares give us glimpses of what is going on in your life beyond Rotary. They are special moments together especially since so much of our time is on Zoom. Your associated "bucks" provide a base for us to continue our special services to our community and beyond. Thanks for sharing you!
