Dear Rotarians and Friends,
Join us this Week on Zoom: Thursday July 2 at 5:30pm
Rotary Opens Opportunities Launch with President Tom
Club Assembly and Board Induction
Happy New Year!
July 1 marks the start of the Rotary year, with a new leadership team:
- At the highest level, Rotary International has a new President with Holger Knaack.
- Our district 5190 has a new District Governor with Roberta Pickett.
- In our Area 4, we have a new Assistant Governor with Lindy Beatie.
- Our Club of Nevada City has a new President with Tom Milam, but of course you already knew that!
As I have prepared to take over the leadership of our Club, I have worked with Club members, including many of those who held positions on the Board for President Cathy’s latest term, to formulate the Club Board of Directors that will assist me in leading our Club during the coming year. Many of the positions on the Board will continue to be held by last year’s leaders, and there will be a few changes.
Here is a list of the members of our Board of Directors for 2020-2021:
Immediate Past President
|Avenues of Service|
Club Service & Social
|Nathan Leishman with
support from John Wilson
Carolyn Feuille / Lynda Guthrie
Nicole Dillard / TBD
Carolyn Inglis / TBD
Judy Soldavini / Cathy Wilcox-Barnes
|Membership and Club Engagement|
|Carla Burke with support from
Dennis Geare & PDG Doug McDonald
Chris Newsom / Nancy Kemp
Chris Newsom / Dennis Geare
Michael Young / Robin Milam
TBD when live meetings resume
From the list of Chairs of Avenues of Service and Committees and other Board members, you can see that many of the positions have a Co-Chair listed. This is a practice that was started by previous Presidents, and which I heartily endorse. It spreads the workload while providing valuable training for Club members and ensures a strong succession of leadership into the future. We have a couple of open positions for co-chairs. Please contact me or the current committee chair if you are interested in serving our Club as a co-chair or as a committee member.
During our Social on Thursday July 2, we will hold an Induction Ceremony for the incoming Board. A big thank you to PDG Dave Denney who will officiate the induction. Once our new Board is officially installed, we will proceed to the Club Assembly for the rest of the meeting.
My intent for the Club Assembly is to give a brief overview of the current status of Club activities followed by my thoughts on how we can be the most effective in serving our community in the coming year. A very important part of a Club Assembly is an open discussion of Club activities and business, so please be prepared with your questions, comments, suggestions, and feedback. Fun is a key component of our vision for our Rotary year.
COVID-19 Among Friends
Last week's “Dealing with the COVID Pandemic From Around the World” program was a warm reminder of how similar our lives are to those around the world even dealing with COVID-19. A special thank you to our guests and to Carolyn and Carolyn for arranging it.
On a more sober note, we have just learned from Lyassat Alshinova that she has contracted COVID and has been sick for 8 days dealing with many of the known symptoms including cough, fever and loss of taste. She is being treated at home. Since recording our video, the COVID-19 situation in Kazakhstan has worsened. She sends her love and gratitude to all of you along with her optimistic message "It’s a hard time for all humanity, but always I believe in the better."
Save the date- July 11 COVID Mask Give Away
Earlier this month, we partnered with Nevada County Masks - Masked Warriors and distributed almost 200 masks made and donated by our partner group. We are planning another one-hour-while-supplies-last COVID mask give away at Dave's Auto Repair on Saturday July 11 from10:00am-11:00am.
Robin's brother Drew Ritger has donated another 200 face masks with a retail value of $2,000 from ZipsFaceMask.com as a personal gift to our Club project . Carolyn Inglis is also arranging for hundreds more masks so our next give-away will be even bigger than the first!
I look forward to meeting with you on Thursday, and to a great year ahead!
Please be current and financially responsible!
Thanks to all who have mailed in your dues! We have now launched the new year ... if you have not paid your dues please connect with Tom Ryan.

Robin was not too far behind withover 150,000 or 68 miles. Cathy and DG Roberta joined them along with over 4,200 Rotarians around the world!!! If we missed you, we would love to hear about your experience!
Hungry Games II - Happy Valentine's Day 2021
Save the Date for a really special Valentine's Day treat as Hungry Games II is now landing on February 14, 2021. July 19 was coming too fast so looking at our options we chose Valentine's Day! In the coming months we will regroup and reconfirm raffle participants and many other details. For now, Miners Foundry, Sgt Funky, The Ham Stand and our Club are lined up for a fabulous celebration.
From District 5190 - Leadership Learning
