1,100 lbs of Food for Food Bank of Nevada County
WOW! Our two hour drive-through food collection event resulted in 1,100 lbs. of food donations and around $200 in cash for the Food Bank of Nevada County! Food Bank Director Nicole McNeely was amazed and deeply appreciative that we collected so much needed food for their programs. As you can see in the photos and videos, we filled her mini-van!
Great job fellow Rotarians! Thanks to everybody who came out on a beautiful day for our event, and thanks to everybody that contributed food and money to support the Food Bank.
And special thanks to fellow Rotarian Dave Robinson for the use of his auto repair shop parking lot.

Lucky Raffle Winner and Food Drive!
Our lucky winner was none other than Rotary Youth Scholar Courtney Andes-McCullough! Courtney graduated from Ghidotti and Sierra College with an AA. She went on to Cal Poly and has recently graduated. She is now preparing for her CPA exam before launching her career in the Sacramento area.

Author Gage McKinney: Tribute Mining
Gage McKinney has written seven books about the social, economic and cultural histories of mining settlements, including MacBoyle's Gold, The 1930s: No Depression Here, and Gold Mining Genius. His subjects include New Almaden and the Northern Mines region of the Sierra, including Nevada, Sierra, Plumas and Placer counties. Gage recently won the John Townley Award from the Mining History Association for his article "Order L-208: The Closing of America's Gold Mines In World War II."
This week, Gage returns to our Club to share more of his rich stories about gold in our county. He will focus on how the system of paying miners a portion (or tribute) of the value of the ore known as "Tribute Mining" kept the mines solvent. Gage always comes with fascinating tales and well-documented historical facts!
