This Week's Social ~ Crumbunny Coffee Roasters of Nevada City

Join us for a tasty evening this week with Crumbunny Coffee Roasters of Nevada City.  It should be fun hearing about coffee roasting and maybe even doing some tasting!

Where or where does the time go...

Labor Day weekend has just flown by. We survived the District Governor’s visit and a much-needed break from Rotary. I’m 1/6th of the way through this year’s term as President. I guess that’s it for another summer in the Sierra.

I just got back from my last backpacking trip of the season (with accompanying rain and hail) and have packed up my gear until next year. It’s time to put away our whites and get out our blue and gold as we prepare to head into a fall jam packed with Rotary activities.

First, the Avenues of Service day is less than 4 weeks away and I hope you have gone on-line and registered. It’s one day crammed with all sorts of breakout sessions to help answer any questions you may have about Rotary, what you are interested in or where you might be able to share your skills in our club or the larger family of Rotary. As I said before, I’d love to have multiple carpools going up for the day. Some of us must be there early and others can leave at a much more reasonable time. Whatever time you leave, you’ll be glad you took the day to attend (and it will be a beautiful ride over the summit). I’ll be asking for a show of hands at our meeting to see who might be going.

Also, we have World Polio Day coming up in October so that means get out your walking boots and plan to “Give Polio the Boot” that day as we do our annual walk. Our route will be announced later.

Second, as we head into fall, your Avenues of Service directors have got some great projects in the works. I’ll be asking various directors to give brief updates to the club on what they are planning in the coming weeks. There are a lot of “hands on” projects and activities so hopefully everyone will find at least one or two that they feel really excited to become involved in.

Lastly, I just want to thank all of you for your support and participation in our club through attendance at our weekly meetings, through your contributions to RI and through your enthusiasm and excitement as we undertake projects, fundraising activities and connecting the world through Rotary.

Heartfelt Condolences to Michael Young and Family

We continue to hold Michael and his family in our thoughts and prayers.  Please note, a Celebration of Life for Karen is planned for Saturday, September 14, from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Nevada City Methodist church at the top of Broad Street

Avenues of Service - District 5190 Training September 28

On September 28, 2019 you will have another opportunity to learn about Rotary and where you might want to use your valuable talents. Cathy is envisioning 3 carloads of Nevada City Rotarians at Avenues of Service (AOS)A Day of Learning for all Rotary Members. Some fantastic sessions are planned with knowledgeable presenters. Both Robin and Pp and PAG Dennis Geare will lead sessions along with many more on the program so you know they’ll be educational (and fun).

The cost is $20.00 and includes a Continental breakfast and lunch AND the Club pays for it so the cost to you is zero! Cathy needs 2-3 more Sargent of Arms for the day so, if you are interested in helping, please let her know. To register, click https://tinyurl.com/AOS-2019 or the flyer image.
