Rotario - June 28, 2017

Dear Rotarians and Friends,

Welcome to our latest Rotario newsletter. Once again it is a pleasure keeping you informed of our club activities in the coming weeks.

This Week - Demotion Party for President Walt

We are looking forward to a warm summer evening at the beautiful bridge house, hosted by Judy and George, celebrating the demise of Walt's presidency. See you tonight!!!

All in all it was a pretty good year, as the membership stabilized and we overcame the unfortunate broken leg suffered by Cathy Wilcox Barnes, and a rather nasty hole in the roof of the fair booth that caused water damage which needed some TLC. Additionally, at District Conference our Club was awarded five first-place plaques and seven distinguished citations! As Pres. Walt passes the torch to incoming President Cathy Wilcox Barnes, he looks forward to breaking out of the bubble, so to speak  !!

Last Week - Haven Bundy and Ayurvedic Medicine

Haven, who happens to be the sister-in-law of Joe Bundy, gave us an intergenic introduction to Ayurvedic Holistic medicine. She started out by explaining to the group that the foundations of this approach are based on the "Five Elements theory" that all of us have components in our body and personality that include earth, water, fire, air, and either. Haven also described some of the physical characteristics that we possess that are defined via the "Three Constitutions" or Doshas. The component of each include Air & Ether provide VATA characteristics. Fire may define a PITTA appearance. And finally, earth and water are used in defining a KAPHA person. Using these elements in developing an Ayurvedic assessment of an individual, then a practitioner can work with that person to allow them to face and release any health or psychological blocks that are in the way of their vibrant balanced health.

Booth Water Damage - update

We are happy to report that Tom Ryan and Pres. Walt were successful in painting the new drywall in the interior of our fair booth. This was completed on Wednesday, June 21 before the summer heat permeated the booth. It appears the booth is now ready for its pre-fair cleanup which is scheduled for July 29.

Children's Festival

On Friday, July 21st, 2017, The Children's Festival will return to Pioneer Park in Nevada City. For one special day each year, Pioneer Park in Nevada City park is transformed into a magical wonderland with over twenty arts and crafts tables, strolling minstrels, jugglers, face-painters, a bridge-guarding troll, a bevy of faeries, Pepper the Witch, medieval fencing, spinning demonstrations, Queen Elizabeth and her court, Pyrate Skool, and Claude, the life-sized mechanical dragon.

There will be two sessions: from 9am - noon and from 5pm - 8pm. Admission to each session is $3. Food and beverages will be available for purchase. And we are still looking for two additional volunteers to staff the "Solar Art" station from 9 to 12. Contact Nancy Kemp for details.

A big Thank You to Nancy Kemp, Gayle Denney and Sandy Stickel for your year round preparation.  Volunteers are needed to support the Solar Art for the morning session and possibly other activities.  It is lots of fun!  Please contact Nancy, Gayle or Sandy if you are available. County Fair Update – Our planning has started for this year's Nevada County Fair which will be held August 9 through August 13. So naturally we continue to circulate the sign-up sheet for staffing all of the work shifts. We're hoping that each active member will help "Share the Load" and not only be able to staff at least two shifts per member, but also recruit friends and relatives for additional shifts. We now have 76 of the 100 slots filled, AND still need evening shift captains for most days. And we have a HUGE HOLE ON FRIDAY -- HELP!!! See the last schedule at 2017 Fair Schedule. You can access, but not update the shift schedule at the Club web site. Please Email updates to Pres. Walt or Sect. Robin.

Temporary Leadership Opportunities in the Immediate Future

Some of our key Board members will be traveling during the summer and the Club needs members to assist in filling some leadership gaps during those periods.  Pres. Walt will be traveling this Summer, and  Pres. Elect Cathy will be out of the area for 2 months this Summer. Both are arranging for coverage of weekly meetings, managing the fair booth schedule, and work parties during their absence.  So far, Tom Ryan has offered to fill in for President Cathy for a month.  Robin will coordinate publication of the Rotario and the Fair work party on July 29.  Robin has submitted an authorization to the Fair for our annual pre-fair picnic targeted for August 3.  Also, Carolyn Feuille, our International Chair will be also traveling much of this Summer.
