Rotario - July 27, 2017

Dear Rotarians and Friends,

Check out all that is happening along with our special lunch program this week!!! See our message and photos from Cathy on the Camino. If you missed Thursday's Social Mixer, don't miss the video of our Ode to Cathy ~ The Happy Wanderer Sing-a-long led by AG Dennis!

This Week: Lunch Our Own Child Actor John Hensley!

John’s acting career started on the Lorretta Young Show and ended seven years later with a pilot episode on the Donna Reed Show. He starred with Jennifer Jones in the movie Good Morning Miss Dove. John played a youngster from the slums whom Miss Dove has helped mould into a citizen with a fine sense of ethics”.  Grooming for Rotary???

John also played in the beloved Lassie the first year that Timmy took over for Jeff. Cloris Leachman played Timmy’s mother and Jon Provost played Timmy.  As adults, John and Jon reconnected and became close friends.  They have been friends for over 20 years.

John’s acting career included roles in movies and television shows such as Wild Bill Hickok, Dupont Cavalcade of America, Life of Riley, Dragnet, Sherrif of Cochise, The Split Level Family, Stepmother,  The Millionaire, and others.  Because Stepmother was the true story of Abraham Lincoln, it was replayed every year on Mother’s Day for 20 years.

Last Week: Evening Social with 49er President Mary Anne Davis and GV  Pres Scott Brown - RI Convention in Atlanta

A big THANK YOU to Mary Anne Davis, 49er Pres and Scott Davis, GV Pres for a delightful tour of 2017 RI Convention in Atlanta and a scenic sojourn through Savannah, GE!

Cathy's first leg of Camino Santiago in Spain

Read updates from Cathy on the Camino!Cathy sent photos from Zumaia. She got her first sello (stamp) in Irun and has been trekking in the rain during her first leg of a 582 mile journey across northern Spain. We are already at 60% of our initial goal for Rotary's End Polio Now! campaign ... let's blow the lid off this goal and make the SKY THE LIMIT!

Read her message and see photos at Make History Today ~ End Polio Once and For All! campaign tracking Cathy's progress along the trail.  We will be posting photos and updates of her progress as well as watching the contributions grow.  Cathy is dedicating her walk in honor of Sam Dardick.

Join Cathy by making a donation to EndPolio as she walks the Camino Santiago del Norte.

County Fair Update & Save the Dates:

Saturday July 29     Booth Clean up
Thursday August 3  Pre-Fair Picnic   5:30pm on Treat Street.  Bring a dessert or salad.  And you will get your Fair tickets!
Wed Aug 9 - Sun Aug 13  Sea You at the Fair!!!

This year's Nevada County Fair which will be held August 9 through August 13. So naturally we continue to circulate the sign-up sheet for staffing all of the work shifts. We're hoping that each active member will help "Share the Load" and not only be able to staff at least two shifts per member, but also recruit friends and relatives for additional shifts. We need an evening shift captain for Wednesday and a morning captain for Friday. And we still have openings for Thursday night, Saturday and Sunday afternoon and Sunday night closing. See the last schedule at 2017 Fair Schedule. You can access, but not update the shift schedule at the Club web site. Please Email updates to Robin.

Rotary at The River Cats

Friday, September 1st. About $40.00 per person which includes bus trip to Raley Field with food and drinks on bus and ticket to game. We usually sit above 1st base (great seats located out of the sun!).

Leave K-Mart shopping center in GV at 5:00pm and return home at about 11:30pm. Great fun with other Rotarians. 115 of us went last year. Robin needs to know names and numbers by August 10. Each club to gather $$ and cut one check per club to Mark Fleming.
